Global Citizenship

Digital Citizenship - We are respected contributors to digital and local communities

This week, we had a visit from Mr Brian Taylor. He reminded us of the importance of one of our Patana Values - being a 'respectful contributor to digital and local communities'. A key message was that we should all be using social media and our communication platforms responsibly.

This includes the following:

  • not sharing our passwords or allowing other people to use our accounts to send messages to other people
  • reporting things that make us feel uncomfortable to a trusted adult
  • not using MS Teams late at night
  • changing settings to 'do not disturb'
  • being aware that we can see all activity that takes place online on MS Teams
  • if you have nothing good to say, better to say nothing at all

We ask that our parent body support us by talking to your children about being a respectful contributor.

Tiger Spirit Day

Student Council Representatives

Along with being elected, comes responsibility: giving up your own time, remembering meetings and being punctual. Our elected Student Council representatives are all off to a good start.

This week, the Student Council have been preparing for an assembly. In our first couple of meetings, the students spent time getting to know each other. Another big part of the meeting was discussing the upcoming charity events and how these would be introduced and organised. On Wednesday, all of the representatives addressed a Year 5 audience to tell them about Tiger Spirit Day. What a fantastic job they did! They collaborated and communicated their message effectively. We all feel so lucky to have this wonderful body of students advocating for Year 5. Well done everyone.

Events in the World

If you would like your child to be aware of world news and events but find it too overwhelming, have a look at Newsround for a more age appropriate version of current events.

Learning

Parent - Teacher meetings

Thank you to all of our parents who we met with this week. It was great discussing how your child has settled back into life at school. We are looking forward to seeing the rest of our parents next week.

If you haven't managed to arrange an appointment, please contact your child's class teacher.

Home Learning and Class Blogs

Remember that your child's home learning has been shared via their class blog.

Here is the link directly to the Year 5 blogs.

Birthdays

Happy Birthday to the following students who are celebrating their birthday this week:

Hansaem5M9th October

We are now able to celebrate the children’s birthdays with them, as long as we follow these requirements:

  • Individualised treats (cupcakes, donuts, etc) can be brought in either at the start of the day or the end of the day
  • No Nuts! Please ensure that any food items sent in do not contain nuts, or any traces of nuts. Please check the ingredients.

· No candles

· The birthday treats must be individual portions – teachers will not be able to cut pieces of cake to be given out.

Please liaise directly with your child’s class teacher to inform them if you will be bringing in treats for your child’s birthday.
