Year 4 Newsletter 1.9.23

We are inquisitive and creative.

This week, we began our new learning theme of 'Chocolate' with 2 days of chocolate themed activities. Throughout Term 1, we will be looking at how chocolate is made, the history of chocolate and how it impacts our world.

The Year 4 team would like to say a   HUGE thank you for all of the junk modelling resources that were sent in- we were able to make so many fun and colourful creations for our Chocolate factory!

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This week I have loved seeing so many of our parents at various events!

On Tuesday, we hosted our first parent partnership workshop looking at the year ahead. On the same day, we welcomed our Year 1 – 6 parents to the Introduction to the Learning meetings. And on Thursday, we said hello to all our new parents at the PTG welcome breakfast.

I reflect on the importance of listening and communication and how everything we do is a partnership. We are delighted to work with you this coming year to create a thriving learning habitat at Patana.

Sarah McCormack

Introduction to the learning

Thank you to those of you who attended our 'Introduction to the Learning' meetings this week. It was wonderful to meet you all!

If you were unable to attend, or if you would like another look at the slides, here is a copy of the Year 4 Presentation.

Well-being

Uniform

School Shoes

Students should wear black shoes that support the whole foot and allow them to be active. On PE days they should have trainers in their bag and change back into school shoes after PE.

School Jumper

Only the blue school cardigan should be worn at school

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered. Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase. If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system. The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Nut Free Primary School

For some children, any exposure to nuts is potentially very dangerous and can be life threatening.

We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.

Some treats, such as macarons contain hidden nuts. Please check the ingredients before sending into school. If snacks or birthday treats are found to contain nuts, we will contact you and either dispose of the food safely or ask you to collect and take back home.

A few reminders:

  • Hats - your child needs a hat to access all the play areas and for PE lessons. It is best to be left in school all week.
  • Water bottles
  • Naming property - Please put your child's name and class code on all their uniform, shoes, hats and water bottles to ensure a safe return if they get left behind!

Before and After  School

Before school starts at 7.30 the Y4 children are allowed to play in front of the Y3-4 building. When the adult on duty blows the whistle, children can then make their way upstairs to their classroom.

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Art Competition

This Art competition is based on natural habitats and is available for FS1-Y6. Students can create their favourite natural habitat (ocean, woodland, etc). They can use any materials they like (diorama, drawing/painting, collage, digital art, etc), any size they like. They just need to make sure their name and class are clearly written on the front.

The deadline is Monday, 18th of September in the Primary Art room.

All the artworks will then be displayed in the Arts shared area and Sarah McCormack will choose one winner from each year group from FS1-Y6.

Learning In Year 4

Term 1A

This week and next, we will be taking part in lots of activities in order to get to know each other and our new environment. The children have settled well into  their new classes and we are encouraging them to explore and develop new friendships. This will continue throughout the term and year through our PSHE curriculum.

Next week, we will begin our new  learning theme of 'Chocolate'.

For more information please visit our Year 4 Curriculum Page.

PE

As Year 4 PE lessons are before break time, the children can arrive at school in their PE kits (or swimming kits underneath their PE kits). They will then need to change into their uniforms at the end of the PE lesson.

PE KIT:

Basketball lessons require Patana PE kit; water bottle and PE shoes.

Swimming lessons require black or Patana swim kit, swimhat, goggles and towel. Long sleeved rash vest / suit optional.
