Living our school values:

Year 2 Pirates sing a Sea Shanty

A note from Mrs McCormack (Primary Principal):

Dear parents,

Welcome back to Term 2A, a relatively short half-term of only 5 weeks. I hope that all our families had a lovely mid-term and the opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family.

As you will be aware, we are experiencing a period of poor air quality at the moment. We are continuously tracking PM 2.5 throughout the day and adhere to our Air Quality Policy. You may notice that first thing in the morning, students are requested to come straight into class and we ensure that exposure is limited should the levels reach “caution for sensitive groups and “caution for all.”

Don’t forget that Monday is Makha Bucha Day and school will be closed. See you on Tuesday!

Proud of you Patana!

EAL - Home language reading books

We are looking to expand the range of books written in different languages in Year 2.

We would love for all students to see books written in their home languages available on our classroom bookshelves.

We are especially looking for the following languages as these are currently unavailable:

Behasa, Bosnian, Dhivehi, Hebrew, Sinhala, Tamil, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

We asking for your help to help us achieve this goal!  You could...

Donate any unwanted books written in your home language for use in school. Please give these to your child’s classroom teacher.

Make suggestions for books that we could buy in your home language. These could be favourite stories from your childhood, copies of books you enjoy at home, or famous/popular books that Year 2 children would enjoy reading.  Please use this google form to make suggestions.

Thank you in advance for your support in helping us to promote our diverse community of languages.

MFL Language Selection for Y2 students moving into Y3 in August 2023

Students start to learn a new Modern Foreign Language when they begin Y3.

They will then study this language until at least Y9.

French, Mandarin, and Spanish are all taught at the beginner level only.

Therefore, students must choose a language that is still unfamiliar to them.

Once a language has been chosen, opportunities to change are very limited.

  • French (beginner level).
  • Mandarin (beginner level).
  • Spanish (beginner level).
  • Thai A (see paragraph below).

Thai Nationals/Dual Nationals

Students registered as Thai nationals are required by law to select Thai A (language and literature). They cannot, therefore, select another language going into Year 3.

Children registered with Dual Nationality (Other Nationality and Thai) are also required to select Thai A.

If you have questions about your child’s nationality registration, please contact Rachel Jones, Head of Admissions at rajo@patana.ac.th

EAL students

Students currently on the EAL register will receive additional EAL support during the MFL times.

Please submit another language choice for future reference should your child exit the EAL programme using the request form link below.

Looking ahead to Secondary

In Year 7, most students select a second Modern Foreign Language.

In Year 10, they have the option of studying one and/or the other language at IGCSE level.

Next steps

Please fill in the online request form by Friday, March 10th, 2023.

We try to meet all MFL requests, but first choices cannot be guaranteed.

Here is the most recent presentation about our MFL programme.

Please contact us should you have any further queries.
