A note from the Principal

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

A highlight for me this week was joining our Maths advocates Ms. Anna Caswell and Ms. Vicky Paxman for their Maths workshop for parents on Number Talks. We were thrilled that more than 140 parents were in attendance, the highest number yet! Next Tuesday at 8am, we are hosting a workshop on social and emotional regulation and we look forward to the learning and discussions on this important topic.

Thank you to the 150 parents who have completed our school report survey. Reviewing our assessments and reports is one of our school development plan goals this year and we are looking for as much feedback as possible on how useful parents find the current format. The deadline for this survey is Monday, 27th March.

Finally, if any families will be leaving at the end of this academic year, please ensure you have submitted a withdrawal form to the Admissions Office by 17th April. If you have any questions relating to withdrawals, please contact Rachel Jones, Head of Admissions at rajo@patana.ac.th

Well-being

Safeguarding at the end of the school day

If you are unable to collect your child, you can ask a neighbour or friend to help to take your child home. We have some new safeguards in place to make sure that the children are safe.

If you would like your child to be collected by another adult please ensure:

  • You email the class teacher and Leader of Learning and Welfare (keme@patana.ac.th)
  • Please copy in reception@patana.ac.th
  • The class teacher will ensure that the Main Reception knows who is taking the child out of school. Reception staff will then be ready to help if there is a query from Security.
  • The collecting adult and the child/ren may only leave via Main Reception. No other gate.

Learning

Our theme for this half term is 'Let's Celebrate'.  You can find out more about this on the Y1 Curriculum Page.  Next term, we will be starting with the theme 'Amazing Thailand'.

Maths Presentation

Thank you to all the parents who came along to the maths workshop this week. We enjoyed discussing what mathematical fluency is, and how developing fluency can support our students with reasoning and problem-solving activities. Below, you can find a copy of the presentation with some notes describing what was discussed for each slide. If you have any questions, please contact Anna or Vicky at anca@patana.ac.th or vipx@patana.ac.th

Materials for Science

In Science, we are currently learning about sound, and we will be exploring different ways to create sound. We will be making junk model musical instruments and linking our learning to the book “Ada’s Violin.” Please can you send in any bottle caps (plastic or metal ones) and any empty food cans (please can these be washed and cleaned before being sent to school) as we will be making bottle top castanets and tin can drums. Any plastic food boxes or small cardboard boxes would really help as well. We would also welcome any chopsticks you would be willing to send in too.

General Information

Snacks - Nut Free School

We provided tasty and nutritious snacks each day for the students in class. As some of our children have allergies, please ensure any food sent to school does not contain any sort of nut.

Birthday celebrations

We cannot give out party bags or gifts - please keep these for any sort of celebration that you do out of school.

If you would like to send in some birthday treats for your child to share with their class, please arrange a day with your child's class teacher. We will only be able to manage individual items like brownies, doughnuts or cupcakes. Please remember we are a nut-free Primary School.
