Today Year 1 celebrated their fairy tale Learning by attending the wonderful year 1 fairy tale ball. The children in 1L looked stunning in their beautiful fairy tale outfits. We had many princesses , a good array of knights and lots of other fantastic Fairy Tale characters including captain Hook and the Tin Man. We started the morning by preparing some fairy bread and then waited for the fairy Godmother to pass on a clue about the location of the ball. We searched the school following the clues and finally found the fairy tale ball. We passed through a magic mirror and raised our glasses in a toast to prince charming and all the Fairy tale guests at the ball. We then had lots of exciting activities to amuse us and were entertained by some singers. we danced along to some fairy tale songs and enjoyed a tasty fairy tale lunch. It was a wonderful ball and the children enjoyed it enormously!
1L had a fantastic day today out on the field enjoying our annual Songkran splash. The children enjoyed playing in the water, splashing friends and teachers, zooming along the slider and getting soaked in the dunk pool.
Have a look at at our pictures - it was a lot of fun!
This week Year 1 children were invited to the Secondary school to watch the Key Stage Three Drama students perform three of Grimms famous fairy tales. The children were very excited to be at a real drama production and it was good that we recognised a few of the older students.
The children watched three fairy tales:
- The Musicians of Bremen
- Beauty and The Beast
- Hansel and Gretel
This week we visited the primary art room for a lesson with Mr David on mono printing.
We took copies of our fairy tale characters we had painted and then learned how to trace over them on to a board which had been inked. We looked at adding lots of texture to our characters and carefully traced the outline on to the inked boards. the results were amazing. we looked at our first attempts at printing and thought carefully about how we could improve them. Come and see our mono prints which are now on display outside our classroom.
Today was the culmination of an amazing week of activities in school to celebrate Book week. We were lucky to spend some time talking with a real author - Ian Billings and were able to ask him lots of questions about what it means to be a real writer of stories. he gave us lots of great ideas about how to build up a character in our imaginations.
Today we all dressed as our favourite characters from books and then joined with Year 2 for a Drop Everything and Read session in the hall. We all brought in our favourite books to read and enjoyed swapping our books with others in the class. it was a fantastic day and wonderful to see the children so excited by books and reading . Well done 1L!
