The children were very excited to take part in our very own circus performance. All the children choose a circus act that they then practiced and performed to the rest of Year 1 in our very own Circus ring. We saw trapeze artists , strong men, acrobats, ring masters, dog trainers, clowns, human cannon balls, jugglers and sword swallowers too! It was a very exciting and colourful show and the children really enjoyed taking part despite it being quite a challenge!
We have designed and made some colourful clown masks in class . We really enjoyed making the paper mache base and then painting them up in bright colours and adding crazy hair and hats. they look fantastic.
Today a real clown, Clown Eckie came in to school to show us how clowns apply their make up and to entertain us for the afternoon. He was very amusing and the children had lots of interesting questions for clown Eckie after the show.
As part of our Circus learning theme Year 1 were treated to a fantastic magic show . The children were amazed and loved taking part in some of the magic tricks.
1L and 1E were invited to join secondary PE teachers in the gym to try out some acrobatic skills . The secondary PE students from Year 8 helped the children to use the parallel bars , high bars, tram-pet, beam and the rings. The children were real risk takers and had a go at doing a somersault off the beam and into the foam pit! We had a wonderful time . Many thanks to Ms Barton and her group of Year 8 helpers.
1L have had a very creative time over the past two art sessions creating a circus figure in clay. We sketched the character and then practiced our skills in Plasticine. This week we were able to use clay to make a coil pot base of our character . Today we added a head and arms to the body and thought about the pose they should adopt. Finally we had great fun adding details such as crazy hair , facial features, clothing ,feet and patterning the clay.
The characters look amazing. We shall hopefully paint and fire them next week.
