Today Santa arrived at our very white and snowy assembly. The children were so excited to see Santa and to play in the bubbly snow!
We went to visit Santa and assured him we had all been very good. Santa was so pleased with everybody he gave them all a present.
Happy Christmas everybody and a very Happy New Year. See you all in 2015
Today the children in Year 1 enjoyed a morning of Christmas crafts. They made a beatiful Christmas tree complete with bead ornaments and ribbons and then made a very funny rudolph the red nose reindeer> at lunchtime we joined all the Year1 classes for a delicious buffet lunch and shared it with our friends and parents. after lunch we had a Christmas movie cineplex where the children chose from a choice of eight Christmas films to watch with their friends.
While all that was happening in school a group of teachers including Miss kem and myself went to deliver all the Christmas gifts to the children in Khlong Toey pre school. They were so thrilled with all your wonderful presents and very happy that they had their very own special Christmas gift form a Year1 child at Patana.
On Friday we started our Christmas celebrations by joining Year 2 in a Christmas assembly. The choirs sang some wonderful festive songs and the staff of year 1 and 2 acted out the story of the Nativity. We had an expert visit us in class on Thursday who talked to the children about the celebration of Christmas and the meaning behind some of our special Christmas traditions. We then all made a Chris tingle candle each part of which symbolizes a part of the Christian faith. We used an orange as a symbol for the world, a red ribbon for the blood, four sticks with fruit to show the four seasons and finally a candle to light up the world. Chris-tingles are an important part of the Christmas celebration in Christian families. The children are now busy writing the story of the very first Christmas in their own words.
Today all the children in Year 1 shared their expertise by setting up their Celebration Expo. Each celebration group designed a stand for all their information, including pictures, writing, posters, artefacts and other objects associated with their celebration. Then the children split into two groups – Experts and Learners. The Experts stayed with their display and shared their knowledge and understanding with any children who came from the other classes, whilst the Learners went around all the classes and found out about other celebrations. At half-time, we swapped over! Hopefully, each child was able to share their knowledge and understanding of their chosen celebration and find out about other children’s celebrations.
Last Friday 1L got together after school for a class party organised by our super class parents Cari and Tanya.
The children swam, decorated Christmas baubles and gingerbread cookies, rode their scooters and played at the playground. Some of the girls even made up their own art activity -- they decorated paper plates with the paint tubes that were used for decorating the baubles (so we eventually ran out of paper plates!). At the very end, the all received 'secret Santa' presents. A wonderful chance to play and have some fun with class buddies.
