On Friday we started our Christmas celebrations by joining Year 2 in a Christmas assembly. The choirs sang some wonderful festive songs and the staff of year 1 and 2 acted out the story of the Nativity. We had an expert visit us in class on Thursday who talked to the children about the celebration of Christmas and the meaning behind some of our special Christmas traditions. We then all made a Chris tingle candle each part of which symbolizes a part of the Christian faith. We used an orange as a symbol for the world, a red ribbon for the blood, four sticks with fruit to show the four seasons and finally a candle to light up the world. Chris-tingles are an important part of the Christmas celebration in Christian families. The children are now busy writing the story of the very first Christmas in their own words.
We are enjoying using our class advent calender which is interactive- each day we hear a different Christmas song and find out about how Christmas is celebrated around the world.
