Part 1 of 3: Search and Keywords

Using Google's Front Page to Search the Web

When you begin a search, there is a single page we can use. This page is usually Google.com. That page, when we use it to search will give us about 10 search results.

The problem is, those results, are not always the best results. And, what we really need isn't always there.

The trick is, is to use the web pages we get from Google's first set of results to take us further. And we use that set of pages to find "Keywords".

Your Task - Searching and choosing keywords on "What is a Microchip?"

Watch the two videos in below.

Perform a search for one of your keywords (e.g Microchip). After each search you do, choose some keywords from the results you get. Make a list.

Next, search for these new keywords to deepen your understanding of your chosen topic.

Finding Keywords From a Basic Search

Moving on from first steps to more advanced techniques:

Investigating Keywords from your first basic search. Wikipedia, despite it being a public forum, is a very good place to begin.

Don't forget to bookmark the good sources of information you have found. Aim to collect 3-5 good sites for the next session.

Part 2 of 3 - Intermediate Search Techniques

Inside Google's Search pages, there are special symbols we can use to make Google do things for us and tell Google Search to dig deep and ignore the things we don't want.

The results of my search of the Microchip meant that I found out about Robert Noyce because he was one of the inventors of the Micro Chip. It also told me that the Microchip has a proper name.

Mixing these two phrases together I can deepen my search with “EXACT PHRASE” + “EXACT PHRASE”

I can also make Google Search look for these phrases in the 'TITLES' of web pages. The titles of web pages are like the titles of chapters in a book.

Jack killby and Roert Noyce invented the microchip in the U.S.

Robert Noyce went on to found intel which makes microprocessors and is still in operation today.

Strange machines:

Microchiped humans: microchips can be put in a human body as well as in animls to acces various things. A company in wisconsin microchips their employees.

Mind control: I the 1960s a professor named hose ayogato took a bull and put a microchip in its brain to shock its brain with protons it was hooked up to a radio transmitter. One of the goals for Musk's firm is to eventually implant microchip-devices into the brains of paralyzed people, allowing them to control smartphones and computers.In a video presented unveiled at the California Academy of Science, Musk said the implant would record information emitted by neurons in the brain.This is helpful to paralyzed people and I think this might be weird however at the same time I think this is helpful

Robert Noyce was a star student but he had to be suspended for one semester because he stole a pig but it could have been worse! The actual punishment was to go to jail for 1 year and to be fined one dollar.

I found a fantastic use of microchips: they put micro chips in refillable plastic bottles. this way they can track how often you use it and save the environment.

Robert Noyce invented the microchip. source is wikipedia and he started Fairchild semiconductor corporation and then Intel Corporation. we still have Intel today and it is used on the computer i am using today. source is wikipedia and thoughtco.com and intel.com

Q3) Biologists can use microchips to track wild animals and learn about migration. Thirsty plants can even use chips to let people know when they need water. I find this weird because I thought that microchips are used only in machines.
