What's New: Technology for Learning Blog
I trust your holidays were wonderful. We were lucky enough to come back early enough to catch weaver birds being born in a nest just outside of our kitchen window. Rather than disturb them we set up an old phone to monitor them remotely. We first live streamed them using YouTube but then I decided to use Alfred instead. YouTube was draining the battery far too quickly and required the screen to be on all of the time, causing the phone to get too hot. Alfred is free to use and gives you a remote view of your live feed, motion detection with alerts, free cloud storage, a two-way audio feed and use of both the front and rear cameras. To unlock additional features, like higher-resolution viewing and recording, zoom capabilities, ad removal and 30-day cloud storage, you can upgrade to Alfred Premium.
Dear Colleagues
Over the past few months some of you may have been contacted by Google about a Brand Account linked to your Patana Google Account.
If you received an email from Google about this please write back to me and we can follow up with Google.
Dear Colleagues
Watch time: 2mins
I hope today has been a smooth start for you. Here’s a quick way to remove the email pop-up messages that distract you from focusing on a task. Also good to remove these when you’re presenting to students, colleagues and/or parents.
One of my mantras is 'if you cannot find it within 3 clicks then it's poorly designed'. I was in the Secondary Art area on Friday visiting a colleague and noticed the clock near the reflection pool was not working. Many times in the Student Council meetings I hear our students lament, and rightly so, about our school clocks being wrong or simply not working. It got me thinking about how members of our community could easily report an issue with a clock, on the spot, within 3 clicks. After a quick five minute Google search I think I may have the answer. If each clock was numbered and its location documented then we could use a unique QR code to send an email directly to Buildings and Grounds (B&G) to come and fix it, or set it to the correct time. It works like this:
