Assessment Statement - Design Technology
Can I develop, test, and design machine prototypes?
Inside digital systems, signals travel using wires and tiny amounts of electricity. These signals are coded into sequences of True (On) and False (Off), or Binary Code.
Your challenge is to invent a system which is capable of getting a signal from A to B for a purpose.
You can then develop a chain of events like a Rube Goldberg machine.
There are many ways we can build these systems in Minecraft. First, we will give you some examples to try to build and then it is up to you to design your own machines from different combinations. How far can you get the signal to travel?
Independent Learning
A signal can move in many ways in Minecraft
Input (Event) | Processing | Output |
---|---|---|
Press Switch | Electric (redstone) Current | Light turns on |
Drop Block (Sand or Gravel) | Object Falls (due to gravity) | Lands on surface |
Release Arrow | Arrow travels through air to target | Arrow hits target |
Pressure plate pressed | Item is released/moves | Triggers another pressure pate |
Button Press | Electric (redstone) Current | Turns on block |
Minecart Starts | Travels along track | Triggers Observer Block |
Lava released | Lava flows | Lights a fire |
Water released | Water flows | Puts out a fire |
Animal (Wolf) is hungry | Animal walks towards food (Sheep) | Animal reaches target |
Part 2 (3-4 weeks)
Assessment Goals
CC3 |
Can I link together a sequence of simulated machines? |
IL3 |
Can I make positive contributions to online communities? |
Now you have had time to practice and learn about the blocks we could use. Your challenge is to design your own machine and then collaborate with a partner to build the longest Rube Goldberg Machine you can.
With your partner - Can you design and build a machine to go through all these locations?
Once downloaded the world should be is in Files app - in the Minecraft /Eduction Edition folder.
Then rename it to keep it safe - My Worlds / Settings - then rename
You will need to save it to the Minecraft / Education Edition folder.
