We have had another great week in the nursery. We have welcomed lots of new friends and their families to join our Nursery community. Play based
learning is how we learn. Here are some examples of our amazing learning through play this week;
Communication and language CL- Role play
in the kitchen and doctors.
- Literacy Lit- Reading, listening to and retelling stories.
- Literacy writing - Mark making in paint, sand and with pencils.
- Maths - Understanding capacity through filling and emptying containers.
- Physical development PD- Developing our fine motor skills through threading.
- Understanding the world UW- Building with Duplo, big bricks and wooden train tracks.
- Expressive arts and design EAD- playing instruments and singing songs.
- Personal, social and emotional development PSED - this is threaded through all of our learning through sharing, taking turns, thinking of others, knowing own self, following routines.
And our other busy learning;

If you have not yet returned to school you can use this home learning to stay in touch with what FSN are learning at school.
1. Developing fine motor skills- threading
You may have beads and pipe cleaners
or you could use pasta and string,
its great for hand- eye co-ordination.
2. Role play – shop
Role play gives our children the opportunity to develop so many areas of learning; communication and language, social skills and maths amongst many others.
Your child can set up their own shop, you may have toys already to do this or you may want to make something, here are some ideas;
Key skills to practice- using language ( either English or your home language), Counting and representing numbers.
- Can you ask for items from the shop? “How much...?” “I would like…and...”
- You might like to make some price tags for your items , this could be actual numbers or marks to represent numbers, you could use real coins too.
3. It's a box- imaginary play
Find a box, it may be big or small. Then let you child use their imagination and problem-solving skills to turn ideas into reality. What will they choose? Perhaps a car, a plane, a house, a bed, a boat, a cave, a tunnel or a present.
We would love to see some of your child's responses to these activities or anything else they have been doing at home, please share with us through Seesaw.
We value the worth of comfort items that help our children feel secure and safe at school, but please remember that toys from home are not necessary in school, they can create conflict and pose a cross contamination risk. We continue to deep clean all toys in the nursery that our children come into contact with. Please help us keep everyone safe.
Don't forget our class photo will be on Wednesday 26th January.
Have a lovely weekend
