Friday 27th March

We are looking forward to our face to face conversations with the children today. A gentle reminder that this is the first time we have tried these calls - please be patient if there are any initial problems. These chat groups are for teacher-initiated calls only. Teachers will not respond to individual messages sent via Teams but will, of course, continue to answer your emails. Thank you for your support with this.

A good morning from Mr Raj and a very special guest - say hello to baby Anaya!

Student Well-being

The following story might help you to discuss questions about social distancing with your child

Harper has made a handbook for her friends so that they can learn about how to keep themselves safe

Keeping Children Safe Online...

Please support your children's online safety by sharing our continued learning code of conduct here:

Wake up and shake up with Ms Karen - can you teach your Mummy and Daddy the actions to this song?

Singing nursery rhymes and songs to children can help develop their language and communication skills from an early age.

These are some ideas for learning at home today. We know that you have all worked so hard this week to support your child's learning at home. The ILD observations tell us that you are doing a great job in very  challenging circumstances - well done to all our parents for your efforts so far, the FS team are very proud of you all!

Mathematics and physical development - obstacle course challenge!

This activity is great for working on gross motor skills. These skills work the large muscles of our body, which we use for walking, jumping, skipping, and more. As children grow, so do their abilities to control and move their muscles. Children need lots of time to play and build strength in their bodies. Working on gross motor skills helps a child gain strength and confidence in his/her body. It also encourages physical activity, which is important for a healthy lifestyle.

Watch the video below. Can you build an obstacle course in your house? Can you talk about what you have to do using this positional language - on, in, over, under, behind, between, through

Plan your course first - draw and label your course design. What is the first activity? Next, then, finally? Make your course using things from your house. Check with your parents that everything is safe!

Reflect: what’s working well and what would you like to improve?

Include use of time: can you use a timer to measure how long it takes you and your family to complete the obstacle course? Who was the quickest? How can you be quicker?

Charlie has made one in his back garden!

This is a great video to help you learn about positional language

Snack time! This is the last day of our healthy snack gallery - thank you to everyone who has sent pictures in. Lots of parents have told me that the pictures you have sent in have inspired their own children to share their healthy snacks! What an awesome learning community we have!

Look who is in our healthy snack gallery this week!

Child-led learning!

Building on your child's interests and ideas help them to feel more invested and engaged in what they’re learning. Having ownership and responsibility at a young age can be a powerful motivator for improved learning experiences. The challenge for adults is building upon this motivation for learning! You could ask your child some of these questions: "How are we going to learn/play/find out more about this? What we might need? I wonder what the most interesting thing about the story is?"

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a magnificent story to read with children as it can inspire them in many different ways. As you share the story with them, help them to think about what makes it a great story and ask them 'what could we do next?'

Some children may want to retell or talk about the story in their home language? Some may want to act it out, perhaps with a story sack? Some children might express and interest in life cycles (such as caterpillars to butterflies, tadpoles to frogs or eggs to chicks etc); some may want to explore the ideas through art e.g. painting a butterfly’s wings on one side of the paper and folding it to see the duplication; and some might not be interested at all! All of these things are ok - they all give your children ownership over their learning choices for today!

We also have the story in Mandarin

and Japanese

Lunch time - next week Mr Dan would love to share pictures of children washing their hands before lunch! Please send any into daha@patana.ac.th and he'll add them to the new gallery!

Sensory play (and some writing)!

Children process information through their senses and they learn through exploring these. Sensory play helps develop many areas of learning: it encourages children to manipulate materials, building up their fine motor skills and coordination; it offers children the opportunity for self-expression because there is no right answer and children feel safe to change or experiment with what they are doing; it encourages them to experiment with academic language and descriptive vocabulary; it encourages Imagination and creative play.

Can you make your own slime with cornflour, water and food colouring? What does it feel like when you squeeze it through your fingers? How would you describe it in your home language?

FS2 - could you write down your instructions about how to make slime - your parents could help say them aloud and you could use your phonics to write them down?

Note to Parents: Slime and other messy play is very motivating for children. Before they get to get messy try getting your child to write down the recipe for you. If you don't have the resources you need today, maybe this is something you could try over the weekend!

Little Inventors Update!

The 'Little Inventors Challenge' gives children the opportunity to develop and showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills, build their confidence, curiosity and resilience. See our blog from Wednesday 25th for more details!

Look at these Little Inventors who have taken up the challenge so far!

Check our Avery's Little Inventor video!

Check out Minami's Little Inventor videos!

Abby has had her invention shared by the Little Inventors twitter feed (@LittleInventors)! You can find a link to her 'smoothie shoe' video here

The Little Inventors challenge doesn't stop because it's the weekend! Mr Dan would love to add any more pictures of models or designs of new inventions to this blog - please email them to him (daha@patana.ac.th) if you want to share!

If you wanted to add your idea to Dominic's website, just ask your Mummy and Daddy to follow the instructions at this link!

Story Time!

Due to potential copyright issues, please do not download or share these stories - thank you.

A weekend challenge!

Our friend Laura Wall has sent this message today:

Hello FS, I hope you are all well? I thought you might like to know I have now uploaded a story reading of Goose's Cake Bake if the children would like to listen to more!

At the end of the story there is a recipe too if children want to bake their own Goose cupcakes this weekend

Best wishes!

Laura

Have a lovely weekend - well done for all of your efforts this week (children and parents). See you all on Monday!
