Year 6 Newsletter 29th September 2023

We are collaborative and confident

Thank you to all the parents who were able to come and support the Interclass basketball this week. It was great to see the children playing together and enjoying the support from the sidelines!

Note from the Principal

29 Sept 2023

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

A highlight for me this week was our Creative Arts parent workshop on Tuesday. Rather than a presentation in the Primary Hall, we welcomed our parents to experience what it is like to take part in a Patana Music, Art and a Drama lesson! A great time was had by all and we think our parents learnt some valuable new skills too!

Next week, we look forward to our Y1 – Y6 Parent-Teacher meetings. This is the first formal meeting of the year where we will discuss how your child is settling into their new class, give a starting indication of their learning aptitude and attitudes and address any questions you may have. We have shared lots of important information in the recent weeks on the new developments in assessment and reporting, so please do take time to digest.

Have a great weekend, let’s hope this rain stops soon!

Sarah McCormack

Safeguarding Presentation

Dear Primary Parents,

We are ready and happy to welcome parent volunteers back into the Primary School after the half term holiday.

As part of our Student Safeguarding, we require any parent who may be in direct and regular contact with students to complete a three-step process before offering their time.

  • Attend a short presentation about in-school Safeguarding
  • Sign the Parent Code of Conduct (updated annually)
  • Sign a Self-Disclosure form confirming that you have never been subject to any allegation or investigation with reference to children or young people.

PTG committee members and group representatives are very welcome to attend annually as part of their role.

The presentation will be held on Wednesday 4th October at 8 a.m. in CON 420.

Please sign up via this link.

Visual Arts Challenge - an exciting opportunity

If you would like to take part, please share your entry with Ms Sarah Dibley (sadi@patana.ac.th) We will be selecting the four entries on the 1st November. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Maths Poster Competition

In preparation for Maths week (which is just before half term) the students were introduced to the poster competition by watching this video:

Some students have made posters in their classes and some said they would like to create one at home.

All the information you need is below:

Performance Week

Performance Week will be happening twice this year, once in Term 1 and once in Term 3.

The children know that the first performance week will be next week,  2nd - 6th October.

Performance Week is an opportunity for any child who is learning a musical instrument to perform in front of a small audience during their regular timetabled music lesson. Children should have signed up to perform during their music lessons and it is an internal event with no spectators. We encourage all students who learn a musical instrument to participate.

Please remind your child to sign up with their music teacher, if they have not already,  and please help them to bring their music/instrument on the right day:

Any questions can be directed to the music teachers:

PE

PE blocks

New blocks start on Monday 2nd October

Athletics requires Patana PE kit and water bottle.

Swimming requires black swimsuit/swim shorts, swim cap (for hair longer than shoulder length) goggles and towel. Black rash vest is optional and sunscreen is recommended.

On non swimming days, students should come to school in their PE kits and trainers. Please ensure they have their school uniform and black shoes to change into as well as a suitable bag to carry their clothes and shoes in

Global Citizenship

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
