A Note from the Principal

Note from the Principal

16-05-2025

This week, I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time in classrooms across the Primary School. It has been a joy to see our students so engaged in their learning—asking thoughtful questions, collaborating with their peers, and showing real curiosity and creativity in their work. Thank you to all our teachers and teaching assistants for creating such vibrant and purposeful learning environments.

It has been wonderful to see the Sports Festivals up and running in KS2. These events are always a highlight of the year—full of teamwork, determination, and plenty of Patana Tiger spirit. We look forward to seeing our students challenge themselves, cheer each other on, and have lots of fun in the process.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Sarah McCormack

Transition to Secondary

This week the Year 6 students visited the Secondary Music Department to get a taste of the different ensembles.

Over the next two weeks, they will visit the Art, DT, Science, and Drama departments.

They will also spend some break and lunchtimes in Secondary so they get a feel of what breaktimes are like.

If your family are leaving Patana, your child will still be able to join these sessions as they are a really positive experience. Your child's teacher will support your child with making connections between this experience and what it may feel like in their new school.

Music Options for Year 7

Please take some time to watch the Y6-Y7 music option video below.

Before you fill out the online form with your child, please note the following:

  • The ensemble that your child is placed in will be for three years (Years 7, 8 and 9).
  • There is no expectation that your child can already play an instrument (except for guitar ensemble)
  • Please understand that your child might not get his or her first choice of ensemble, so please put alternatives that they would be happy studying as second and third choices.
  • The deadline for completion of this form is Tuesday 20th May
  • Music Ensemble allocations will be communicated to students and parents in August.
  • Please note that we are asking students to think about their choice of ensemble NOT instrument
  • Student timetables will show a generic class named MUSIC and the teacher will be Miss MacRitchie for all students. Once the placements have been announced during Term 1, the timetable will be updated to show the correct music teacher and ensemble.
  • Instrument trials will begin during Term 1 of the new academic year.

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
