Year 6 Newsletter 15th March

We are motivated and engaged

Note from the Principal

15th March

A note from the Principal

It has been an explosive and enlightening week in Primary, as we celebrated our annual Science Week. Welcoming back Ruben Meerman and Ian Stuart, all our students have been immersed in Science.

In Year 5, the students have been investigating how different light conditions impact on the production of oxygen for pond weed plants. In Year 1, the children have been studying the periodic table, making molecules of H2O2 and NH3, and magnifying anything in sight x100. In Year 6, the learning has focussed on the structure of atoms, calculating the amount of protons, neutrons and electrons needed to make up specific atoms and went on to build them using Ian's unique ‘atom maker’.

Over the next 2 weeks, Ruben and Ian are collaborating with our teacher Science leads to develop a curriculum that integrates discrete atomic theory units of learning and inter woven links to existing Science units! Impressive stuff Patana Primary!

Congratulations, finally, to our Year 3 students who had a great week at Residential, and good luck to those who are off next week!

Sarah McCormack

Wellbeing

Sponsored run

Next week, Y6 students will be running or walking for charity. Students will count the number of laps they run or walk around the school field each day in order to raise money for our charity (A21).  they will record their totals and share their success with family and friends. Sponsorships will be collected after the event. Thank you for your support.

School Photos

The cards for ordering school photos were distributed to students this week. If you have not seen your child (ren)’s postcards, please ask them.

Two important pieces of information:

  1. The deadline for 25% off has been extended to 2nd April.
  2. The photos shown online are not yet fully cleaned up. This will be done when the photos are ordered.

Note:

There is also a customer service email address on each card. If students lose their card and need to find their code, please direct them to email customerservice@pre-a-portrait.net.

Book donations

It was lovely to see our Year 6 students reading to our younger students on World Book Day, and enjoying time in class for some extra quiet reading time.

It is not too late for families to donate a brand-new children’s book (Thai Language Please) which will passed to one of our A21 charity.

If you wish to donate a book, your child should hand it to their class teacher during the month of March.

Events around the world

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
