Well-Being

PSHE in Year 6:

Do I make healthy eating choices?

This is one of the questions that we have posed to our Year 6 students this week. Not only are we encouraging students to eat a hearty breakfast, but we are also encouraging them to bring a healthy snack to school. Sweets, chocolates, biscuits and crisps (chips) are not healthy snacks. Fresh fruit, vegetables, dried fruit, yogurt or a sandwich are a few options that we encourage students to try.

Also, we ask for students to bring in a reasonable portion size as many of our students fill up during break time and are then not hungry during lunch time. Eating during lunch times ensures that our students are well equipped for an afternoon of learning and for their ECAs at the end of the day.

Learning

Headphones for learning

During our ICT lessons, we are going to be learning about HTML coding language. Hypertext Markup Language is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. We plan to complete an online course which requires students to use headphones.

Please ensure that your child brings in a set of headphones for these lessons. Thank you for your support.

Global Citizenship

We are empowered by our interculturalism - Year 6 Multi Cultural Celebration

We have been learning about the importance of valuing our own cultures and those of others.

To enhance this learning, we would like to organise a Multicultural Celebration to celebrate the variety of cultures within Year 6. This will give our students the chance to celebrate an aspect of their culture with their peers.

Students can bring in a dish that is meaningful to their family or something that represents their home culture. A small plate of food is sufficient as it is a tasting session only.

We are a nut free school, so please check ingredients before sending any food in.

The feast will take place on Tuesday 17th September during lesson time, so your child should bring their dish in with them on Tuesday morning.

This is part of your child's home learning task.

If you have any questions about the feast, please contact your child’s class teacher.

We are active volunteers

While in Year 5, our current Year 6 students took part in numerous charity events in order to raise money for the Water Well Project. This project helps Cambodia families get access to clean water.

We are happy to say that the water wells have now been completed. Here is one of the families who have benefited directly from our Year 6 active volunteers.

Birthdays:

Nut free Primary School

For some children, any exposure to nuts is potentially very dangerous and can be life threatening.

We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.

Happy birthday to the Year 6 students celebrating their birthday this week.
