Global Citizenship

The Great Water Walk sponsored Charity Event

Our unit of learning is Water, Water, Everywhere? As part of our learning, we are exploring communities who do not have access to clean water.

For our charity event this year, we have planned a sponsored water walk. Through exploring case studies, we have learned that millions of children around the world walk miles each day to get clean water. This impacts on their lives as they are often unable to go to school as most of their day is filled with this task.

In Cambodia, Thailand's neighbour, more than 2 million people lack access to clean water,  and 3 million lack access to effective sanitation. With approximately 77 percent of Cambodians living in rural areas, poor access to safe water and sanitation disproportionately affects its rural communities.

The Cambodian Clean Water Project is a charity that builds wells for families in Siem Reap. Year 5 supports this charity each year, and this year, we aim to donate funds that will enable the charity to build 8 wells each costing around 15,000 baht.

Next week, your child will bring home a sponsor form. You can sponsor them per lap of the sports field, or with a one-off donation.

Here is a link to the Patana News article which gives more information about the Cambodia Clean Water Project

Thank you for your continued support.

Events In The World

If you would like your child to be aware of world news and events but find it too overwhelming, have a look at Newsround for a more age appropriate version of current events.

You can also access First News and The Week along with a wide selection of other magazines in our Primary Library. Being aware of current events really will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class.
