A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

It’s been another superb week in the Primary school with the rhythm of school life firmly back. I have very much enjoyed catching up with the students each lunch time in the canteen and hearing about the excitement of being in a new class. Time passes by so quickly, that I can’t believe that those children who were in Year 4 when I joined Patana are now in their last year of Primary. This year, I am pleased to be teaching Ms. Anna Caswell’s class in Year 5. Each member of the Primary leadership team has a weekly teaching responsibility and I am delighted to be supporting Year 5 for 2 hours a week, when Ms. Anna has her leadership cover. This will be my 20th year as a teacher, another unbelievable passing of time, and I know I still have a lot to learn!

Next Tuesday, we begin our parent partnership series and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Please RSVP here if you would like to attend.

Well-Being

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered.

Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.

If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system.

The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Art Competition

Smart Watches

Last year, we sent out a message to parents to inform them that students should not wear Smart watches to school.

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Plain black shoes for school

Primary students wear plain black school shoes as part of their uniform.

All shoes require at least a wide strap to keep the shoe firmly in place.

Your child will need a different pair of shoes (trainers) for their PE lessons.

School Cardigan

Some children find the air conditioned classrooms chilly. Students can wear a Patana cardigan. They are available in the Tiger Shop.

Learning

Parent support

Year 5 are going to the Planetarium on the 26th September. If you are available for the whole day, and you have already attended the parent volunteer safeguarding training, then please reach out to Miss Anna anca@patana.ac.th.

Junk Modelling

As part of our DT learning, students will make a junk model for a Mars Rover. To do this, we ask if you have any recycling materials at home. Please send them into school. Thank you for your support.

PSHE - Student Code of Conduct

Over the next few days, your child will bring home their Student Code of Conduct. Please spend some time going through this with them. Encourage them to keep it somewhere visible at home. We will continue to refer to this throughout the year. There is no need for them to bring it back into school.

Year 5 PE

Students should come to school in their PE on Monday and Friday. If they have swimming for the first lesson, they can wear their swim kit under their uniform. If they have swimming later in the day, we ask that they DO NOT wear their swim kit to school.

Please ensure that your child brings their uniform with them to get changed into after their PE lessons.

Welcome to music in Year 5!

This year, we will be learning new skills on the ukulele in class as well as many other exciting musical activities.

Recorders will not required in Y5. In the interest of sustainability and recycling, we would like to ask for any school recorders to be returned back to your class or music teacher as soon as possible so they can be cleaned ready for our younger students to play on.

If your child/ren wishes to continue playing the recorder independently they can be purchased at any music store. Our usual model is Yamaha YRS - 24B.

Please do get in touch with any queries lima@patana.ac.th

Class Blogs and home learning

Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs. You will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.
Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Global Citizenship

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
  • Parents can join in the celebrations.
