Global Citizenship

Musician of the month

Musician of the Month - February

Our Musician of the Month for February is Yo-Yo Ma. An incredible cellist, Yo-Yo’s parents are from China and he has lived in the US for most of his life.

Yo-Yo is particularly interested in how music and culture can bring the world together. (See this article in Time magazine). He has participated in a number of projects aimed at highlighting how culture and music forge connections between people, for example The Bach Project(36 CONCERTS. 36 DAYS OF ACTION. 6 CONTINENTS.1 EXPERIMENT: HOW CULTURE CONNECTS US), Pop-up Performances for Essential Workers, Committee of 100 and numerous online and in-person educational appearances (including Sesame Street!).

Although Yo-Yo is classically trained, you can see him making music with a wide range of musicians and styles, most recently in an American Bluegrass group.

Feel free to use our special Youtube playlist or to find your own music. Happy listening!

Events in the World

If you would like your child to be aware of world news and events but find it too overwhelming, have a look at Newsround for a more age appropriate version of current events.

You can also access First News and The Week along with a wide selection of other magazines in our Primary Library. Being aware of current events really will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class.

Learning

Primary Residentials - important updates

Departure times

Y5 will start boarding buses from approximately 8:20am.

All students will wear their school PE kit for the journey to and from Khao Yai.

Everyone will wear a face mask whilst travelling on the bus.

Bags

Encourage your child to help pack their bag. Ask them to read the kit list and think about what they need to include as they will have to carry their own bags from the bus to their room.

A warm set of clothing is required for evening activities.

Your child should arrive at school at their normal time with a large bag and a small daypack.

Students have been given a luggage label. Please ensure that this is placed on their large bag.

The large bag should be dropped off in the bus area at the front of school.

The daypack should contain:

  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses (optional) and camera (optional)
  • Any hat with a Patana logo plus a spare hat
  • Spare mask
  • Small bottle of hand gel
  • A snack for the journey will be provided by the school and eaten at the rest stop.

Please do not place any other snacks in their day pack.

Money

There is a limit of B500 pocket money. Children manage their own money.

Medications

Students are not allowed to self-administer any medication including dietary supplements/vitamins. All medicines must be handed over to a nurse. Please provide clear instructions on when and how to take the medicine.

If possible, please send any medications in to the Primary Nurse a few days before the departure date. Medications must be labelled with your child’s name/class code.

If you have medications to hand over on the day of departure, the accompanying nurses will be located in front of the Art Building stairs.

No electronic devices or ‘tech wearables’ on Primary Residentials

We expect that all electronic devices are kept at home during your child’s Primary Residential.

This includes GPS trackers, mobile phones and smart watches of any brand.

Any electronic devices or tech wearables will be removed for safekeeping by the accompanying staff and returned to you upon our return.

Please give yourselves permission to take a short break from parenting duties whilst our wonderful teachers look after your child.

Please refer to the email from the Primary Office for any other information.
