Uniforms on PE days

We want all children to feel comfortable at school, and being able to change out of sweaty kits after PE is a part of this.

Please give your child a reminder for the next few weeks so that this becomes a part of their Monday and Friday getting ready for school routine.

If your child does forget, it is not the end of the world. Your child's class teacher will send you a reminder via email.

ATK testing

Remember to submit your child's ATK testing before 5pm on Sunday so that your child can join the learning straight away.

Keeping Children at Home

If your child is feeling unwell, has a fever, or has any flu like symptoms, please do not send them into school. If a child is sent to the school nurse with a fever, runny nose, cough, or sore throat, you will be asked to collect them from school.

Your support with this is vital and very much appreciated.

Learning

Author visit

Next week, we will have a virtual visit from the bestselling children’s Science author – Nick Arnold.

The Horrible Science Show consists if live Science experiments and short movies. Nick may also present quizzes or readings from his books. We have shared our connected learning themes with Nick, so some of his presentation should be linked to rainforests in some way. Nick will also answer questions from the audience, which I will share with him in advance – see details below.

Many of Nick’s books are available in the library, and we have also ordered this box set to share between our classes.

Students can also order copies of Nick Arnold's book. Please download a copy of the booking form and return to your child's class teacher.

PE Curriculum Update

Please note that from Monday 21st March the next PE units will start.

Climbing and OAA (Outdoor and Adventurous Activities) requires Patana PE kit, sports shoes, sun hat and water bottle.

Mini Tennis requires Patana PE kit, sports shoes and water bottle.

Dance and Gymnastics require Patana PE kit and water bottle.

Home Learning and Class Blogs

Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs.

Please encourage your child to complete their home learning. Each week, Mathletics tasks are set. These consolidate the week's learning. There is also a Literacy of Connected Learning task based on the learning.

This is posted on your child's class blog.

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Smile Day Bracelets

If you have ordered a Smile Day bracelet, you will receive an email to let your know when it is ready.

Celebrations

It has been wonderful to be able to mark different festivals and school events since we reopened in November.

Students are able to bring in individual food treats (but not gifts) to share with their class for their birthday. For other celebrations we are unable to share out food or gifts - please can we request that students do not bring in gifts or food treats for their class on other special celebration days. Many thanks for your support.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats in their classroom.
  • Unfortunately, parents can not join in the celebrations.
  • Your child's class teacher will however share a photograph with you.
