A note from the Principal
This week, we have truly found our rhythm, and students are settling well into
the routines of school life—bravo to everyone!
It has been wonderful to welcome so many parents on campus, whether at the 'Introduction to Thai' parent workshop, the Year 1 to Year 6 'Meet the Teacher' sessions, the new parent coffee morning, or during our Primary assemblies.
We are delighted to work in partnership with our parents to support our students' learning and well-being. Looking forward to a fabulous year ahead!

Well Being
Positive Behaviours – Positive Attitudes
On Tuesday 27th August, we were pleased to welcome many parents to the first Parent Partnership Workshop of this academic year, and to share our new Positive Behaviours – Positive Attitudes poster.
Our students may be familiar with our whole school values of Well-Being, Learning and Global Citizenship. This poster makes these three strands more accessible and age appropriate.
We also introduced the
matrix of positive behaviours and attitudes, organised under the
three strands of Safe, Curious and Kind. Clearly shared expectations help us to
promote and model the behaviours that we want our students to absorb as they
progress through school. Please join with us in sharing and modelling these
positive behaviours and attitudes.

Learning
Class blogs
Each week, we publish class blogs. The purpose of these is to give you an insight into your child's learning and what is happening in Year 4. Please visit the class blog and discuss your child's learning with them.
This week, you will find a link to your the presentation given during the Introduction to the Learning presentation given this week.

Reading
Please encourage your child to read at home every evening. We are working on improving reading fluency in Year 4. Here is a video explaining what reading fluency is.
The video below shows three strategies that you can use at home to help improve your child's reading fluency: echo reading, partner reading and repeated reading. These strategies can be done in 5 to 10 minutes, and when done regularly, they can have a very positive impact on reading fluency.
If you have any questions about how you can support reading at home, please reach out to your child's class teacher.
Maths Week
Next week, we will be welcoming UK Maths gurus Andrew Jeffrey and Liz Gibbs to Patana.
Maths will be celebrated throughout the week through some number tricks, puzzles and investigations.
To celebrate the 50 Year Anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube, your child is invited to bring in their Rubik’s Cube (or similar toy, perhaps in a different shape) anytime next week. Students may then challenge each other to solve it quickly at break or lunchtime.
Learning In Year 4
For more information about the Learning in Year 4, please visit our Year 4 Curriculum Page.
Calling all parent volunteers
Are you interested in helping out in Year 4? We are looking for parents to support our students with their daily reading. Please see the information below. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to your child's class teacher.
PE
Children should come to school in their PE kits on the days that they have PE lessons.
When your child has swimming lessons, they should come to school with the swim kit on and their uniform on - NOT their PE kit.
All students are expected to get changed into their school uniform after a PE lesson.
PE KIT:
Swimming lessons require black or Patana swim kit, swim hat, goggles and towel. Long sleeved rash vest / suit optional.
Handling: Normal PE kit, hat and water bottle.
Remember that students are expected to wear a different pair of shoes for school and for PE lessons.

Birthdays
Parents should not bring in class gifts, balloons, bubbles, whistles, games, drinks etc. Your child's class teacher will politely ask you to take these home with you. We enjoy celebrating birthdays by sharing a birthday treat such as donuts or cakes.
We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus.
Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings. If you bring these in, unfortunately, we will have to send them home.
- Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
- Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
- Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
- Parents can join in the celebrations.
The following Year 4 children have celebrated their birthdays this week:
- Tham and Sani
We wish you a very happy birthday!
Temporary Guardianship Form
Please complete this form if your child is going to be staying with anyone other than their immediate family. This helps us to contact the appropriate adult should there be an emergency.
