A note from the Principal

A Note from the Principal

24 January 2025

This week, let us celebrate the power of curiosity and kindness, two of the guiding principles in the Primary school. Every question asked and every small act of care creates a ripple, shaping the community we love.

On Thursday, I saw great curiosity and kindness at our newcomers coffee morning, organised so wonderfully by our dedicated PTG! Thank you to all those who attended. Next Friday, we look forward to honouring the Lunar New Year with our families with our annual assembly and dress-up day!

Well Being

looking after our belonging

This week, we have spent some time sharing items of clothing, water bottles, swimming goggles, swimming hats etc with children in Year 4. All of these items have been left behind, forgotten in the year group by Year 4 students. Any items that are not collected will be sent to the school lost property.

If your child is missing their PE kits, school shirts or shorts, you can come into the year group to have a look.

To help us reunite items of clothing and other belonging with students, please name all belonging.

Quantum Magic Science Show with Ruben Meerman

Join us on Saturday 1st February, 9-10am in the Primary Hall for a brilliant Science show (with plenty of magic thrown in) with Ruben Meerman, also known as 'The Surfing Scientist'. Either scan the QR code, or click on this link to register: https://forms.office.com/r/Z0z4bs66mF

Start of day timings

For families who arrive by car, getting departure and arrival times right can be difficult.

You don’t want to arrive to early, but you also don’t want to be stuck in the LaSalle traffic.

The occasional late arrival is well understood - and sometimes unavoidable.

However, the class teacher will be in contact if there is a persistent pattern of lateness.

Primary school timings – start of day

  • Staff on duty from 7 a.m.
  • Students enter classrooms at 7:30.
  • Timetabled learning begins at 7:40.

If a child arrives rushed, and perhaps stressed about missing a lesson, this is not the best start to their day.

Those first ten minutes, from 7:30 – 7:40, are an important part of the school day.

Established start-of-day routines give children time to settle and switch into learner mode.

We want all of our children to know about the importance of punctuality, and not only in their school setting.

Leavers Transitioning ECA

This group is designed for students preparing to move on to new schools or environments. It provides a safe and supportive space to learn how to say a ‘proper goodbye’, provide opportunities for closure and to discuss changes ahead.

We’ll explore topics such as managing new responsibilities, making new friends, dealing with any worries and/or excitement about the future. Through activities, discussions, and peer support, students will gain tools to handle the challenges and embrace the opportunities that come with this next chapter. This group aims to help each student leave feeling more prepared for a smooth transition.

If your child is leaving Patana, and you are interested in them joining this ECA, please look out for this ECA sign up.

If you have any specific questions, please reach out to Ms Aarti at aama@patana.ac.th or Mr Laiyoung at lace@patana.ac.th for more information.

Maths Writing Opportunity

Performance Week

Performance Week this year is in the week 27th - 31st January.

This is an opportunity for any child who is learning a musical instrument to perform in front of a small audience during their regular timetabled music lesson. Children can sign up to perform during their music lessons in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, parents cannot attend the event.

We encourage all students who learn a musical instrument to participate as performing is a great opportunity to build confidence, share their learning and motivate further practice.

Please support your child to perform if they take lessons on an instrument and please help them to bring their music/instrument.

Any questions can be directed to the music teachers:

Birthdays

Parents should not bring in class gifts, balloons, bubbles, whistles, games, drinks etc. Your child's class teacher will politely ask you to take these home with you. We enjoy celebrating birthdays by sharing a birthday treat such as donuts or cakes.

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus.

Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings. If you bring these in, unfortunately, we will have to send them home

Birthday Treats

  • Children may bring in a special treat to share with the class.
  • Please contact the class teacher to arrange a suitable time. In Year 4, you can do this on Monday or Wednesday as we have Spelling lessons on other days.
  • Brownies, cupcakes, small donuts, and cake slices are easier for your child to give out.
  • We do not give out drinks (e.g., bubble tea, sodas)
  • Please reduce plastic packaging.
  • We do not allow party bags or other gifts to be given out at school, either for birthdays, or other celebrations.

No birthdays to celebrate this week.

Temporary Guardianship Form

Please complete this form if your child is going to be staying with anyone other than their immediate family. This helps us to contact the appropriate adult should there be an emergency.
