This week we have continued our learning about “The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, starting to use the Pie Corbett method of Imitation, Innovating and Inventing. The children have been exploring using their senses to describe the world around them, using the words nouns and adjectives and ‘Kung Fu Punctuation’ to give actions to these words.
For instance, the children may write the sentence:
On Monday, he ate through one juicy strawberry.
Here, they have chosen a new fruit (noun) and a describing word (adjective), changing the original text in a simple way.
In addition, the children have been exploring the world around them and using a range of adjectives to describe their experiences. We have been on a sound walk and combined our mathematical curriculum with our literacy work by using a Tally Chart to record the instances of similar sounds. We then chose adjectives to describe what we heard. In addition, we have been exploring change within our science curriculum and used our senses to describe the changes that we saw, heard and felt when we made popcorn. However to protect our teeth, we only used our sense of taste once it had been cooked!
Next week, we will start looking at how we can stay healthy and will explore this concept in a variety of different ways within our literacy and mathematical work.
Have a look below to see some of the learning taking place this week (and a cake or two for Mr Madden's birthday!).
