The children in 1M have enjoyed listening to and sharing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle (which is nearly the same age as Mr Madden!). We have made some actions and been using our whole body to tell the story. This week the children got a chance to try out their drama skills and ‘Step out’ the story we are looking at over the next few weeks – “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle. ‘Stepping out’ is a strategy that involves the children (and adults!) standing in a line and then taking a step every time a new thing happens in a story. That way, the children learn about sentences, paragraphs and even chapters as they demarcate the story into its different parts.

Next week we are going to start to imitate and then innovate the story, by using the repeating format and adding our own adjectives and nouns.
