Healthy Eating in 1M

This week 1M have been looking at all the different foods we eat, at school, at home and when we are out. We thought about the traffic lights we have in the school canteen and what the colours meant:

Red for proteins – great for growth

Yellow for Carbohydrates – fantastic for energy

Green for fruits and vegetables – perfect for vitamins that help us repair our body and keep us healthy

Then we talked about how much of each type of food we should have for a balanced diet. We learnt that we mostly need foods like rice, noodles and pasta for energy, some fruit and vegetables to keep us healthy, some meat, fish or nuts to help us grow, maybe some milk or cheese and then small amounts of sweets and snacks as a treat!

To help us see if our own diet is healthy, we are keeping a Lunch Log all week, using the Traffic Light colours to think about our food choices.

Later this week we are going to design a healthy, balanced meal using different materials.
