Loy Krathong in 1L

Today we celebrated Loy Krathong in 1L. We all came to school dressed in our beautiful traditional Thai costumes. We joined a wonderful assembly, learned all about Loy Krathong and watched some graceful Thai dancers. We thought about the many uses of water and why it is so precious to us and then wrote our wishes for Loy krathong. We were very lucky to have some expert Thai students to help us each make our own krathong and to teach us two Thai games. We even danced to the song of Loy Krathong. finally we all went over to the Sala to float our beautiful Krathongs on the water. it was a really magical day!

Dylan's Birthday Celebration in 1L

1L have had a very busy week planning a party for our class dog , Dylan. We made party hats, jellies   and sandwiches as well as decorations for the big day. Some children made gifts for Dylan and he even had two birthday cakes. It was a great party with lots of dancing, eating and fun! Have a look at all of our pictures from the week.

Celebrations in 1L

This week the Year 1 teachers started our celebrations theme with a big assembly introducing lots of different celebrations to the children by dressing up costumes and acting out a celebration.

Today, in humanities, we thought about celebrations that come from other countries. We looked at  maps and flags and found about the Celebration of Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day held in lots of European countries, and both North and South America.

The children learned to read and follow a recipe weighing out the different ingredients and mixing them to make the pancake batter. We cooked the pancakes and ate them with sugar and lemon. they were delicious!

Making Fruit salad in 1L

We have been thinking and learning about healthy eating in 1L and especially about healthy "Traffic Light" lunches that include the three important food groups ; Protein (red), carbohydrates (yellow) and vitamins ( green). The children are now able to choose a very healthy balanced lunch and identify the food groups they are eating.

We have leaned about the benefits of  eating lots of fruit and decided to make a healthy fruit salad  to eat in class. We learned lots of new vocabulary linked to instructions for making fruit salad and used " bossy verbs " for our instructions .

Home learning in 1L
