Trapped !

We made traps in 1L and set them in our shared area with plenty of bait. That night the security guards reported lots of movement in the Year 1 block. They set the security cameras running and this is what we saw.  Luckily our traps were very well designed and we managed to catch lots of the little people. We wrote them all a letter asking lots of good questions to find out more about them. Finally they replied and have asked if we could design and make them their own miniature playground so that they will not have to bother us any more. This week we have been busy researching playgrounds and thinking about the most exciting equipment that we would like to have in a playground.Next we shall be designing our playgrounds.

Setting traps!

Today 1L have been designing and setting traps to try and catch some very mischievous Little people that appear to come alive when we are not in school. At the weekend the little people appear to have stolen some our art paint and then stepped in it and made footprints all over our shared area. We have decided that it would be good if we could catch a few of the little people to see what they are really like and to try and find out why they are being so naughty. We have designed and made our own traps today and have placed them in our shared area so that we can try to trap some little people tonight.

Toy workshop

1L were inspired by Mr Tinker and our drama input from the previous week to make some toys. Poor Mr tinker had broken his arm and needed our help to make lots of new toys for his Toy shop. We designed and made our very own toys. Along the way we learned all about materials toys are made from, and how to join different materials.  We all learned how to sew too and stitched our initial on felt..

The resulting toys that 1L made are really fantastic  as you can see from our pictures;.

Tally -ho!

1L have been learning how to tally in maths this week as part of our unit on data handling. We used looly sticks to start off our tallying and found out how much quicker it was to count in bundles of 5!

We have now made tally charts for boys and girls in our class, birthday months, different hair colours and also our favourite toys. Our next step is to use this data to produce pictograms for the class and bar graphs. Have a go at some tallying at home.

The Toy's Picnic

Today was the day all of the teddy bears and soft toys in 1L got to go on an exciting alphabet treasure hunt. We found the first clue and then set off around the primary school  to find all the letters of the alphabet. Each time we found a letter we needed to name a toy beginning with that letter. The children took turns to write down the toys as we slowly discovered all the letters of the alphabet. The trail of letters led us to a huge picnic area and together with our teddies and other assorted soft toys we ate a very special picnic lunch. Miss Michele read us the story of the Teddy Bears Picnic and we enjoyed a lovely lunch together.
