The children have been learning about a very special celebration this week - Weddings. Today we held our very own wedding in Year 1 and the children from 1L were the guests. We had a lot of fun decorating cakes to make a grand wedding cake for the reception and we made lots of bunting and confetti too. The children all came dressed in their best clothes for the celebration and some of the children read out a love poem we had written in class. After the wedding we went back to our shared area for the wedding reception where we ate cakes and danced to celebrate. it was a wonderful wedding day. Many thanks to the secondary drama students who made a wonderful wedding party!
We have been learning about the celebration of Thanksgiving . We learned that people in north America and Canada all celebrate Thanksgiving on the 3rd Thursday in November. We watched the story of the very first Thanksgiving meal shared by the pilgrims . We also thought about what we are thankful for. The turkey is a symbol of Thanksgiving . We made a hand print turkey picture and then went outside to grill some real american smores made of chocolate and marshmallows over a fire.
This week the children will be learning about the Celebration of Diwali and how it is Celebrated.
1L had a fantastic time at the International day parade and during our visit to the food hall. The children's costumes were so very colourful and we enjoyed learning more about our home countries, making our national flag and locating our home country on a world map too.
Today we visited the International day Expo where the children took part in lots of activities from the many countries around the world.
have a look at our wonderful photos.
Today we celebrated Loy Krathong in 1L. We all came to school dressed in our beautiful traditional Thai costumes. We joined a wonderful assembly, learned all about Loy Krathong and watched some graceful Thai dancers. We thought about the many uses of water and why it is so precious to us and then wrote our wishes for Loy krathong. We were very lucky to have some expert Thai students to help us each make our own krathong and to teach us two Thai games. We even danced to the song of Loy Krathong. finally we all went over to the Sala to float our beautiful Krathongs on the water. it was a really magical day!
