Inquiry-based learning - How to become a little explorer....
Being a 'Little Explorer' can take many different forms and, just like our play, it is open-ended. Whatever your child is interested in, and wherever they want to take their inquiry, they are welcome to. Have a look at our visual to illustrate how young children follow a line of inquiry:
Inquiry-based learning helps our children to stay curious and motivated to keep learning. In Foundation Stage, children's imaginations are rich with curiosity and this week's learning gives your child the space to explore anything they are interested in.
Learning from real life experiences is always a wonderful way to motivate children. They may wish to find out more about something they found interesting during the school break, or perhaps go out and explore their garden, park or wider environment. They might be interested in learning more about their family, community or a culture further afield.
To support your child in becoming a 'Little Explorer', read our Explorer themed books and look at our daily exploration challenges. You can use these ideas to get you started, or go ahead and follow your child's existing interests.

Little Explorers Phase 3
Good morning everyone! Today we continue to explore different sources to find out more about your favourite topic!
Explorer Challenges this week: Where Can I find out more about……
Miss Sarah shares with you many ways in which you can search the internet to find out more in a child friendly, safe way!
You can also watch Miss Elizabeth’s video to help you to use books to explore further. If you don’t have any books about your favourite topic at home, we will share lots of online books that you can access from home.
Other ways to find information….
Using the internet to find information, images and videos to learn more about….Did you find useful sights, images, etc?
Using books at home and online books to find out more about….What books have you found?
Asking an expert. Is there someone I know who can tell me more about….Who will you ask?
Where can I go to find out more? (gardens, parks etc..)Have you any ideas about anywhere you can go to help you to find out more?
Today you may want to decide what you want to ‘do’ something special with the information you have found out so far… You may want to start making something, conduct and experiment, create a poster or book maybe?
I have decided to make an ‘Under the Sea’ scene with playdough!
You could share your learning in many ways. Here are a few examples of how I shared my ‘under the sea’ exploration. How many different ideas can you come up with to share your exploration topic?
'Let's Go Live' is a great YouTube Channel to spark interest and inspirations of what your child may wish to explore: www.youtube.com/user/maddiemoate
Can you share your questions, or what you have decided to 'explore', with your class teacher via ILD?

Sensory Play
For today’s sensory play, try making some scented water!
Instructions in English
For today’s sensory play we are focusing on our sense of smell. Find something in your kitchen that is scented to put in the water for your child to experience.
What did you add to your water to make it smell different?
