A Note from the Principal

30 October 2026

It seems a long time since I last wrote a Principal’s Note, with half term followed quickly by our two staff CPL days. It is lovely to have Patana Primary back in the full flow of things again.

A highlight for me this week was joining a Year 1 learning walk with some of our new staff, looking at great practice across the year group. I particularly enjoyed hearing the children tell me all about their Kenyan village role play, and everything they had learnt through such an immersive experience which will be captured in their new writing unit.

Next week, I am looking forward to KS2 Sports Day. Have a lovely weekend.

Birthday Treats

We enjoy mini birthday celebrations in class but ask that you pre-arrange a time with the teacher.

Please note, this is a small celebration within the class. It is not a ‘birthday party’ and siblings and friends from other classes are not allowed to attend.

Birthday treats should be small, with minimal plastic wrapping. Please only send enough for your child’s class.

Individual portions such as small brownies, small cupcakes, and half-donuts are easy to give out.

All food sent into school must be nut free.

As school policy, we do not give out party bags, drinks or gifts sent in by families.

Please do not give out any of these items at school as this can cause unintended problems.

Uniform Reminder – School Shoes

As part of our shared commitment to being Safe, Curious and Kind, we would like to remind families about our school uniform expectations, with a particular focus on school shoes.

Children should wear plain black school shoes or fully black trainers as part of their daily uniform. Wearing the correct uniform helps children to be safe and appropriately dressed for the school day, supports a positive and purposeful learning environment, and helps create a strong sense of belonging and community across the school.

Thank you for your support in helping children take pride in their uniform and come to school ready to learn.

Before/After School

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area before 7:00am and after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to bring students to school after 7.00am and to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Smart Watches and Phones

Whilst we encourage our students to learn how to tell the time, smart watches offer additional online functions like that of a mobile phone.

Features such as gaming, internet browsing, and the ability to make and receive calls are potentially distracting in class and can pose a risk for safety and privacy. Within the Primary School, students are required to keep their smart watch safely stored in their bag during the school day. Smart watches can be taken out of bags once a child exits the school gates at 2:30pm or once their ECA has ended at 3:30pm or 4:30pm. Students are not allowed to take or send images while using the school bus.

Smart watches are expensive items. Please be aware that the school takes no responsibility for loss or damage of smart watches.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for all our students.

Changemakers

PE

Students should come to school in their PE kit on PE days.

Please ensure that your child brings their uniform with them to get changed into after their PE lessons. If students have PE last lesson on Friday, they do not need to bring a change of clothes.

Blogs

Click on the image to visit the Year 6 blogs.

This is where you will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.

Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.

Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

 Events In The World

You can help your child stay informed about what’s happening in the world by watching Newsround, a child-friendly news programme. Keeping up to date with current events not only supports your child in making links to themes explored in class reading, but also provides a great opportunity for you to model sharing opinions and connecting experiences to events and people.
