A note from the Principal
A Note from the Principal
8 November 2024
It has been a busy week in Primary, with our Year 1–6 Sports Days and our Year 5 Readers Theatre, both bringing plenty of energy and excitement to campus. On Friday, Primary students also had the chance to watch the SEASAC tournament, and on Saturday, we are all looking forward to the PTG Big Night Out. These special events truly make our community brighter and stronger—thank you to everyone who helped bring them to life!
Please remember to be mindful of influenza as we move into the season. We kindly ask that you monitor your child’s health and keep them home if they’re unwell.

Well Being
Residential Pocket Money
All parents have received a letter this week with reminders about the Year 4 residential. There was an error in the letter.
Just to confirm, children can bring 100 baht with them.
Learning
Music
This term in music lessons we are learning more about playing the recorder and reading pitch notation. Children were given a recorder in Y3 and so hopefully should still have one. Please can you ensure these come into school for their weekly music lesson. If anyone has misplaced theirs, we do have some spares in the music department, alternatively they can be purchased through Lazada for less than 200THB. The model we recommend is Yamaha YRS24B.
Zones of Regulation
This week during our PSHE lessons, we have explored the Zones of Regulation programme, which is a simple approach to developing self-regulation. The Zones of Regulation provides an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and sorts emotions into four colored Zones, all of which are expected in life.
Student benefit from:
- Increased self-awareness and social and emotional skills
- A common language for communication, problem solving and emotional understanding
- More time spent on learning instead of on behavior management
- A healthier, more inclusive school climate
Next week, we will begin to explore how our bodies feel when we are in each zone. This will help students to identify more acutely how they are feeling. You could use this language at home too.
Lifesaving Lesson for Year 4 Students during non-residential week
During the upcoming residential weeks, whilst in school our Year 4 students will participate in a lifesaving lesson instead of their regular swimming lesson. This special session is designed to teach essential water safety skills in a fun, hands-on way, providing students with an introduction to lifesaving techniques.
For this lesson, students should bring lightweight, long-sleeve pyjamas to wear in the water, as this clothing helps simulate real-life rescue scenarios. Additionally, they will need a bag to store their wet clothes after the session.
Please see the schedule below for your child’s designated lifesaving lesson. For further questions, feel free to contact Jayne Jauncey, Head of Primary PE, at jaju@patana.ac.th.
Class blogs
Each week, we publish class blogs. The purpose of these is to give you an insight into your child's learning and what is happening in Year 4. Please visit the class blog and discuss your child's learning with them.

PE
Children should come to school in their PE kits on the days that they have PE lessons.
When your child has swimming lessons, they should come to school with the swim kit on and their uniform on - NOT their PE kit.
PE KIT:
Swimming lessons require black or Patana swim kit, swim hat, goggles and towel. Long sleeved rash vest / suit optional.
Athletics Normal PE kit, hat and water bottle.
Remember that students are expected to wear a different pair of shoes for school and for PE lessons.
As a reminder, if your child is unable to participate in a swimming lesson due to illness or other reasons, please contact the PE teacher directly, rather than the class teacher or Year Group Leaders.

General information
Birthdays
Parents should not bring in class gifts, balloons, bubbles, whistles, games, drinks etc. Your child's class teacher will politely ask you to take these home with you. We enjoy celebrating birthdays by sharing a birthday treat such as donuts or cakes.
We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus.
Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings. If you bring these in, unfortunately, we will have to send them home
Birthday Treats
- Children may bring in a special treat to share with the class.
- Please contact the class teacher to arrange a suitable time. In Year 4, you can do this on Monday or Wednesday as we have Spelling lessons on other days.
- Brownies, cupcakes, small donuts, and cake slices are easier for your child to give out.
- We do not give out drinks (e.g., bubble tea, sodas)
- Please reduce plastic packaging.
- We do not allow party bags or other gifts to be given out at school, either for birthdays, or other celebrations.
The following Year 4 children have celebrated their birthdays this week:
We wish you a very happy birthday!
Robin
Kieran
Minji
