LI: Can I explain how technology might distract me from other things?
Can I identify times or situations when I might need to limit the amount of time I spend on technology?
Learning Task
Print out the activity cards or make your own by copying the words onto small pieces of paper. YOU ONLY NEED TO BE ABLE TO VIEW THEM. NO NEED TO REQUEST EDITOR RIGHTS.
Follow the instructions below and choose one of the options for your task.
How am I going to share my learning?
No need to share. Stick your poster, display or comic strip up at home to help remind you of the importance of getting a good balance between life and tech. You could share your views on life v tech with your friends and teacher during your wellbeing call.
Instructions:
Either print or copy the 18 cards. You only need the words, not the pictures. Sort them into two piles and put them face down.
Separate the cards into two piles (life and tech) and shuffle each pile.
Pick up a card from each pile (one life and one tech)
Think about these questions:
Can you do both at the same time?
Is it OK to do both at the same time? Why? Why not?
Which one is more important?
Which one takes more time?
How would other people feel if you did those two things at once?
How would you feel if you could pick only one?
Repeat several times with pairs of random cards, one life and one tech.
Choose your task from the following choices:
Task Options - choose one
Make a poster about a healthy balance between life and tech
Use the cards to create a display with notes/connections; you could, for example, order them or link them to show which can be done together, and which can’t be done together.
Create a comic strip on paper showing the importance of a good balance of life v tech. Look at the short funnies below. Your comic strip might include a story about what can happen when the balance between life and tech is not good; what could go wrong? Use the cards to help. E.g. imagine trying to eat a meal while playing a video game. Would that work?
