A note from Mrs McCormack (Primary Principal):

29 Sept 2023

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

A highlight for me this week was our Creative Arts parent workshop on Tuesday. Rather than a presentation in the Primary Hall, we welcomed our parents to experience what it is like to take part in a Patana Music, Art and a Drama lesson! A great time was had by all and we think our parents learnt some valuable new skills too!

Next week, we look forward to our Y1 – Y6 Parent-Teacher meetings. This is the first formal meeting of the year where we will discuss how your child is settling into their new class, give a starting indication of their learning aptitude and attitudes and address any questions you may have. We have shared lots of important information in the recent weeks on the new developments in assessment and reporting, so please do take time to digest.

Have a great weekend, let’s hope this rain stops soon!

Sarah McCormack

General Information

Morning drop off

Thank you for encouraging our Year 1 students to be independent by lining up and coming into school with their teachers after drop off.

A huge thank you also to all our parents and carers who have helped establish expectations by modeling the behaviors associated with the first and second whistle signals.

1st Whistle is stop and wait

2nd Whistle is move to your line to come inside

Should you arrive late to school, please do bring your child to the classroom and hand them over to our teachers. If the class has already departed for a specialist lesson, parents and carers need to walk their child to the correct location, after dropping their child's bag in class. This is so the students remain supervised by an adult. Thank you for your support with this.

Snacks before ECAs

Sometimes the students are hungry after a long day at school and before their ECA begins.

Teachers allow the students time at the end of the day to eat their snack if they need it.

Please make sure this snack is in their bag for them to eat independently without support.

If you wish to see your child before their ECA please email the class teacher in advance so they can hand them over to you whilst ensuring all other children are safely taken to their ECA providers.

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered.

Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.

If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system.

The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Allergies and Dietary Requirements

Please ensure your child/ren's medical information is fully up to date on our systems.

Should your child suffer from critical conditions related to their diet they are no longer able to eat any birthday treats brought into school from outside.

We encourage parents now to provide a small box of dry snacks/treats that their child can eat, which the class teacher can keep, and use during any celebrations in class.

Birthday celebrations

Next week Aavir (1C), Megan (1R), Ryan (1S), Mac (1J), Pitcha (1S), Nithipong (1V) & Jayden (1C) will all be celebrating their birthdays! The students who will be celebrating their birthdays over the half term break and the first week back at school are Ezra (1J), Rory (1N), Myn (1J), Noah (1S), Sofia (1N) and Keir (1V). A very big happy birthday to you all!

Reminder: We cannot give out party bags or gifts - please keep these for any sort of celebration that you do out of school.

If you would like to send in some birthday treats for your child to share with their class, please arrange a day with your child's class teacher. We will only be able to manage individual items like brownies, doughnuts, or cupcakes.

Please remember we are a nut-free Primary School and also check with the class teacher for any other dietary requirements of the class.
