Navigating Friendships - Friendship Facts

Teaching Children About Friendships

As teachers, we see friendship ups and downs all the time, especially in Year 1.

Friendships at this age can be so joyful, but they can also come with challenges as children learn to negotiate and communicate.

We know that you must hear about these friendship challenges at home too. Here are some simple friendship facts that can guide your child through friendship ups and downs.

Fact #1: No friendship is perfect.

Friendships have good times and tricky moments—that’s normal!

Fact #2: Every friendship is different.

All friendships are unique, and it’s great for children to have different kinds of friends.

Fact #3: Trust and respect matter.

Good friends make us feel happy and safe. If a child feels left out or sad often, the friendship might need attention. A "Friend-o-meter" can help them decide if it feels right!

Fact #4: Friendships change, and that’s okay.

Friends may come and go, and that’s perfectly normal. There’s no need for the pressure of having one "best" friend forever!

Primary Parent Teacher Meetings

Next week parents have the opportunity to meet with their child’s class teacher. The booking system is now closed, however if you would still like to arrange an appointment please contact your child’s class teacher via email.

Meetings are 15 minutes in length. Please ensure you arrive on time to your meeting so that other meetings are not impacted across the school.

If you can no longer attend your meeting, please do let your class teacher know as they may be able to arrange an alternative meeting time.

ECA’s and school transport will run as normal next week. Please contact transport@patana.ac.th to make any changes to your child’s travel arrangements.

A reminder that these are parent teacher meetings and there is limited supervision at school for your children during these times. So please make adult supervision arrangements for any children not attending ECAs that will remain on the school grounds.

A note from Sarah McCormack (Primary Principle)

27 Sept 2024

A note from the Principal

This week, we met with our Y4 – Y6 parents to explain all about our upcoming Residentials. You will note that our Residentials have undergone a calendar change from February to November, so that we can enjoy better air quality. This means that ‘Resi excitement’ has begun even earlier and I have loved catching up with the students on what they are most looking forward to!

We look forward to seeing you at the Solo Festival on Saturday and the Fun Run on Sunday!

Safe Curious Kind

Parents may have seen these new posters around the Primary school. We recently shared the attitudes and behaviours that we want to help every student to learn and develop as they move through our school. These attitudes and behaviours are grouped under our three key values; Safe, Curious and Kind.

We want these positive words, thoughts and actions to support and strengthen your child’s holistic development as they move through Primary and into young adulthood. Please help us champion these three key values by referencing our matrix of positive behaviours and attitudes in conversations with your child. The matrix is also available in Thai.

School bags on mats

To help us ensure a smooth and safe morning routine, please make sure that school bags are not left on the mat without your child between 7:00-7:30.

If you take your child to another location during this time, we kindly ask that you bring their school bag with you. When we see a bag without a child, it can cause concern, as we may not realise they’re with their adult elsewhere.

Please ensure that school bags are large enough to fit all of your child's belongings inside - including book folders and swimming kits.

Playground use - before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered. Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase. If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system. The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma. If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Allergies and Dietry Requirements

Please ensure your child/ren's medical information is fully up to date on our systems.

Should your child suffer from critical conditions related to their diet they are no longer able to eat any birthday treats brought into school from outside.

We encourage parents now to provide a small box of dry snacks/treats that their child can eat, which the class teacher can keep, and use during any celebrations in class.

Please remember we are a nut-free Primary School and also check with the class teacher for any other dietary requirements of the class.

School Shoes

Primary students wear plain black school shoes as part of their uniform.

All shoes require at least a wide strap to keep the shoe firmly in place.

Your child will need a different pair of shoes (trainers) for their PE lessons.
