Now that the timetable is in ‘full swing’ each day is extremely busy, from the moment the children come in to drop off their bags until they go to their ECAs or go home. Every day is a little different, though there are some constants:
- Daily Mathematics, Guided Reading, Letters & Sounds, Reflection and Connected Learning.
- Changing of reading books on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Checking of Magic Words at least three times a week.
- Morning Activities to encourage Speaking & Listening skills.
- Snack and milk before playtime.
- Lunch upstairs in the canteen, supervised by either Miss Ondine or Mr Madden.
Yesterday was a typically busy day, with the children joining in with:
- Music - can I follow a musical pattern?
- Mathematics – can I find one more than a number?
- Guided Reading – can I use a variety of strategies to read new words?
- Connected Learning – can I write about my daddy using lots of detail and capitals letters and full-stops?
- Letters & Sounds – can I recognise the sounds ch + sh in words and spell simple ch/sh words?
- Swimming – can I practise a stroke and improve my technique?
- Reflection – can I talk about what I have learnt and something I would like to get better at?
Of course, even this is an over-simplification of yesterday, with lots of children also learning with some of our additional adults, completing independent tasks related to learning from the day/week before and choosing their own independent learning using a variety of materials in class. The pictures below will give you some idea of the variety of activities on offer…
