Physical Development - Fine Motor Control
If you have playdough at home, you can warm your fingers up before starting your mark making.
We would like your child to freely experiment using a pencil, pen or crayons. You can show your child the correct way to hold their pencil, using their first and middle finger for control and their thumb for support (see diagram below). We want you to have a go at taking your pencil for a walk. You can make some marks on paper, card, cardboard or any suitable material. Your pencil journey could last the entire roll of paper. Your drawing might become more expressive as you progress. You can use coloured pencils, crayons, pens or paint to fill in your shapes and drawings.
Thai Translation:
Take your pencil for a walk...
Teddy Thomas is learning to hold his pencil properly. He has taken his pencil for a walk on a piece of paper.
He drew some curved lines like this:
And some straight lines like this:
Here is his drawing:
Use your crayons to colour in the pattern for Teddy Thomas. Try very hard to colour inside the lines.
Thai Translation:
Now it's your turn to take your pencil for a walk.
Hold your pencil properly - not too tight.
Now draw some curved lines and some straight lines. Try to keep your pencil point on the paper until you have finished.
- Have you drawn a lovely pattern? Use your crayons to colour it in.

Sensory Play - Making Rainbow Rice!
Today, let's make Rainbow Rice! In the process of making this creative resource, children experience following the instructions to make it and they see the process of changing the colour of rice. Once it's finished, they have a tool to use to explore and express their creative ideas. This is a great opportunity to develop fine motor skills, you can add tweezers or tongs to the rice. Enjoy!

You will need:

Using ILD
ILD is the platform Foundation Stage use for sharing learning. Sending pictures and videos here allows teachers to give personalised feedback on children's learning. A gentle reminder that teachers are unable to provide feedback via email or Teams chat. A parent guide of how to use this platform is in the document below.
We would love you to upload an ILD observation of your child learning today.
Have a wonderful day of learning at home today!
