Let's Be Musical!
Research has proven that music has the ability to strengthen the connection between the body and brain to work together as a team. With this in mind, we are thinking about ways around our homes to become more musical. To do this effectively, we need to start with a huge characteristic of learning...the ability to explore. Let’s explore the sounds we can make from pots and pans. We are developing gross motor skills and muscle strength when we ‘drum’. We are also flexing our listening, sound discrimination muscles.
Let’s be curious and try out the sounds that come from everyday things.
Have a look at the experts who can make amazing music from everyday objects…
You might like to choose to be the conductor with actions for start and stop. You also might like to model how to create ‘quiet’ noises by tapping gently. Speed up your rhythm for a fast song like ‘One little finger’ . Slow down your rhythm for a gentle song like ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’. I wonder if you can identify different instruments from the sound they make?

ILD prompt: We are looking for children to create sounds by banging and tapping and to explore how sounds can be changed.
Maybe your child is already learning a musical instrument? Please share this with us?

Can you remember how, and why it is important to keep washing your hands?
Guidance on washing hands properly...
Step 1: Wet hands with safe running water
Step 2: Apply enough soap to cover wet hands
Step 3: Scrub all surfaces of the hands ± including backs of hands, between fingers and under nails ± for at least 20 seconds
Step 4: Rinse thoroughly with running water
Step 5: Dry hands with a clean, dry cloth, single-use towel or hand drier as available

Lunchtime!
Lunchtime is a great opportunity for your child to listen to some music. Choose any genre you like, but some calming classical music is great to expand musical horizons.
Or these amazing piano skills with a more modern style of ‘classical’ music from the Penguin Cafe orchestra.

Using ILD
ILD is the platform Foundation Stage use for sharing learning. Sending pictures and videos here allows teachers to give personalised feedback on children's learning. A gentle reminder that teachers are unable to provide feedback via email or Teams chat. A parent guide of how to use this platform is in the document below.
We would love you to upload an ILD observation of your child learning today.
Have a wonderful day of learning at home today!
