Good morning FS1 and FS2: click the links to find the video from your class teacher!
We have had so much wonderful learning shared from home that we have now created a 'Sharing Our Learning' gallery on the main page so we can keep on adding more!
These are some ideas for learning at home today. A reminder that you don't have to do all (or any) of these today. Maintaining a routine and a connection with school are the most important things!
This week in Foundation Stage we are going to play...
This week, we are going to explore how to do Little Role Play! As Einstein said:
Parents...
Play IS learning for our children, but we can help them to go deeper with their learning through play with some small tweaks to our understanding - that’s what we’ll look at this week. To see examples of great learning through role play, look through this folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GQYQjh0vkvxcOw0ll8qI6pLKFL7JqHAT
Children...
This week, you get to explore your interests and expand your imagination through lots of playing! To fire up your imagination today, we’re looking at one of our favourite books: Not A Box! Listen to the story, watch the FS adults talk about their ideas, and then begin to explore your imagination - what could the box be instead? What do you want to create and play with today?
Traditional role play
This is when children 'take on a role' and pretend to be something that they know e.g. a police officer, a hairdresser, a zoo keeper - something that builds on experience they've really had.
Deconstructed role play
This is more open-ended play where the children can explore ideas beyond their immediate experience e.g. being an astronaut, going in a submarine, building a unicorn garden - this is where they can explore new imagined experiences.
Small world role play
This is using small items to act out scenes e.g. using Lego, blocks and fabric to make an underwater scene and act out what the fish do.
Role Play - Mr Raj explains the learning for parents:
Where to start?
Let your child start - allow your child to initiate and lead the play. If they feel they are in charge of their own learning, then they will be more engaged. If they are more engaged, their will learn more. For the rest of the week, we will be providing more information for you to show how you can deepen your child's learning, but for today, just enjoy playing with them and noticing what they're interested in. You might simply ask your child "Can I play with you?" and see what they suggest.
If you do need something to get your child started, you could use Not A Box to start warming up their imagination - see the book and recordings below. You might also look at our folder of examples of great role play in school.

Sensory Play!
For today’s sensory play we are focusing on our sense of smell. Find something in your kitchen that is scented to put in the water for your child to experience.
