Stayin' Alive with Hands Only CPR

Learning basic first aid is an excellent life skill. Today we will aim to learn CPR.

Steps to Take

1. Check for DANGER before you approach the person who needs help. Make sure you will be safe before helping anyone else.

2. Check for a RESPONSE by tapping them gently on the shoulder and saying something like, "Hello, are you OK?"

3. Check for an Airway by tilting their chin and then placing your ear over their mouth and looking down their chest to LOOK, LISTEN and FEEL if they are breathing.

4. If they are not breathing CALL FOR HELP. In Thailand the emergency phone number is 191

5. Begin HANDS ONLY CPR and wait for help to arrive. If there is an adult present they might opt to do full CPR but research shows even Hands Only CPR can help! You want to lock your hands together, place them in the middle of the chest and push down about 1/3 of the depth of the chest. You need to do this 100 times a minute so some people find it useful to sing along to a song that has that rhythm and timing.

Let's practice... get a pillow or a stuffed toy and go through the steps! Make sure you don't actually phone 191, we don't want to waste the precious time of our hard working emergency responders.

We never practice CPR on a real person as they may get hurt.

Here are two great videos to practice along to.
