Social & Emotional Counselling: Information for Parents

Counselling in Secondary School: Information for Parents

As well as providing support to students, the Secondary School Counselling Team are available to provide advice and guidance to parents of Secondary students. Parents are more than welcome to get in contact with us if they have any concerns about their child that they would like to discuss.

If you would like a Secondary Social and Emotional School Counsellor to see your child, please do let us know, but please be mindful they will also need to be willing to speak with us independently. Forcing a young person to see a counsellor when they don't want to is generally not beneficial and may even stop them accessing support in the future. However, if the young person is willing to meet with us, then we are more than happy to speak with them. Please be aware that we will keep our conversations with them private unless a safeguarding concern is raised. Where necessary and appropriate, we are also happy to arrange meetings with a student and their parents; as long as everyone consents to this.

If you have spoken to your child and you wish to request an appointment with one of the School Counsellors together, the referral form is at the link below and you will receive a response the next working day, unless it is the weekend or a holiday and then we will respond as soon as school reopens.

Form: Request an appointment for your child with the School Counsellors

While we do not provide individual or relationship counselling to parents, we have provided below a list of  contacts for appropriate external professional counselling outside of school if needed.

Parents can contact us to discuss any questions or concerns they might have by email at:

External Counselling Services in Bangkok

There are many reasons why students may not wish to receive counselling at school; there may be a specialist that will target their needs more specifically; they may wish to see someone from their cultural background; they may not feel comfortable talking to someone in the place they also receive their education or where their friends are (even though the service is completely confidential); they may wish to speak in their home language; they may wish to visit a counsellor nearer to their home or the whole family may wish to receive support together. These are just some examples of reasons why students may choose to see someone other than us and we completely understand; the most important thing is that our students are supported.
