I had to pay B1200 for customs duty so the total came to approximately $120 with shipping. The apps are free and the boys were quickly into playing with the standard games (<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/th/app/words-for-osmo/id876514856?mt=8" target="_blank">Words</a> &amp; <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/th/app/tangram-for-osmo/id876510541?mt=8">Tangram</a>) with minimal guidance. They started to argue and who's turn it was quite quickly - a good sign of engagement in the Taylor clan. Preparing a healthy and student friendly environment conducive to learning is a pre-requisite for any effective instruction to take place. From arranging the setting of the classroom itself ( e.g students seats, empty space, instructor space...etc) to dealing with the different unexpected events that would pop up during instruction, classroom management is an integrative process that requires some serious work primarily from the part of the teacher. It is true that new teachers with no previous teaching experience are more likely to have problems with managing their classrooms but having a long teaching experience does not necessarily mean one is immune to issues of classroom management. It definitely takes more than experience alone to run a classroom because teaching is an art that draws on several closely knit particles to make up the whole picture.<br><br>Over the last couple of weeks, I shared here a wide variety of resources, materials  and tips on classroom management and there was a lot of interaction with these materials. I was still teaching ninth grade English and had just accepted a job teaching technology to K-5. I was excited about the challenge, and I knew that I'd bitten off more than I could chew.</p><p>Developing the tech curriculum challenged me to teach programming or at least computational thinking at each elementary grade level. Our school is mid-pivot in technology -- we're in our second year of a middle school 1:2 iPad program, our first year of having a cart of iPads available for elementary, and our last year of two PC labs for the students to use (next year we'll have only one lab). Reading, writing, and math are now followed by digital literacy. Obviously, depending on the grade level  you teach, your students will have different abilities in each of the four areas, so your expectations and your teaching approach may differ quite noticeably from your colleagues. But the nagging question still remains for many teachers – what <em>exactly</em> is <a href="http://www.edudemic.com/tag/digital-literacy/">digital literacy</a>?</p><p>Because it is a relatively new term, many teachers are able to define it as it pertains to their specific classroom. A quick Google search yields me the very vague <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_literacy" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">definition of</a>: <em>the ability to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate and create information using a range of digital technologies.
