Welcome to Week 3
What a fantastic week of learning we have seen in FS2! Your teachers, TAs and specialist teachers have loved seeing the learning and experiences you have been sharing during your lessons and on Seesaw.
Click on your class to see your 'Weekly Celebration Video'. Take a sneaky peek at some other classes too, can you spot any of your other friends?

This Week's Learning
Communication and Language with Ms Elizabeth
This week we will continue to develop our questioning skills through more imaginative play! We will hit the stage as actors, performers and puppeteers!
Session Guidance- English
Session 1:
Come prepared for lesson 1 in your favourite costume! You could use a special hat, glasses or a sheet to get into role. Or, wear dressing up clothes if you have them at home.
Please come to our PD sessions in clothes that allow you to move freely. We suggest either wearing your FS2 PE kit, or shorts/trousers and a t shirt. Skirts and dresses, although lovely are not practical for these sessions.
This week, join Ms Gemma as we play some fun and active warm up games. We will continue with our ball skills and practice dribbling and kicking a ball.
Session Guidance- English
Fine motor skills are just as important as gross motor skills. We will have fun exploring clay with scissors, and create some amazing patterns and shapes in our salt trays!
What will you need for our lessons next week?
Lesson 1:
A ball for bouncing and kicking (recommend a large ball)
A washing basket or some baskets/toys to make a football goal
Last week, we did some yoga at the end of our session. If you would like to try yoga at home with your family, the story 'Yoga Bug' can be found below:
This week our Small Group Learning calls will begin to incorporate one Phonics focus and one Maths focus day. During these initial weeks of phonics instruction, we will focus on Phase 1.
Phase 1 phonics supports the importance of speaking and listening and develops children’s discrimination of sounds, including letter sounds. Phase 1 is all about getting children to listen to sounds around them, including environmental and instrumental sounds. They will also begin learning about rhyme, rhythm and alliteration. These skills are hugely important across the Foundation Stage and it is important that children progress through each of the phases to ensure there are no gaps in their learning as they progress through school.
Our Maths sessions will again be fun and interactive, focusing on a core understanding of numbers 1-10 and shape, space and measure activities. Rather than looking at how we can keep expanding the size of numbers children are working with, we are looking for good ‘number sense’ with numbers 1-10.
Number sense is the ability to be flexible with numbers. It helps children understand both how our number system works, and how numbers relate to each other. Children who develop number sense have a range of mathematical strategies at their disposal. They know when to use them and how to adapt them to meet different situations. Children with good number sense enjoy playing with and exploring numbers and number relationships. As a result of these strategies, they can often find the most efficient solution to the problem.
It is hugely important not to push children ahead with mathematical concepts until they are really secure with the foundations. Children with poor number sense tend to focus on procedure and will rely on methods that they feel secure with. They apply inefficient and immature strategies to calculations and fail to spot links and connections that could get them to the answer more quickly.
We can help children achieve good number sense through a variety of hands-on counting games and songs, allowing children to be fully immersed in number through day to day practical activities.
Our class teachers will continue to focus on a blend of well-being activities alongside these sessions in order to ensure your child continues to feel content and confident during their CSL learning. This blended approach will ensure the children continue to develop their confidence around unfamiliar adults and peers, whilst really supporting their Communication and Language development.
Join Mr Charlie for a Music session at 1pm on Thursday.

Child Initiated Resource Pack Learning
Take a look at some of the ways you can explore your Learning Pack this week. Remember, these are just ideas and should your exploration take a different direction, GO FOR IT!
As Patana’s Continuing Student Learning (CSL) period
continues into a new term, children and teachers will be learning what makes
great lessons online and honing their skills on the technology; however, for
our youngest students, screen time is not always so easy. Whilst our youngest
students love working with their teacher onscreen, they also benefit immensely
from hands-on, practical and creative tasks that aren’t always easy to deliver
online.
If there’s anything our fantastic Foundation Team enjoy,
it’s a challenge. So, over the last week, our team put together these fantastic
home learning packs to bring Continuing Student Learning to life. Our home
learning packs enhance our students’ learning and supplement our teachers’ home
learning activities. They include activities that cover all aspects of the
Early Years Seven Learning Areas. You can visit our CSL blog which includes
some home learning ideas for our open ended resources, learning opportunities
and key questions. The bags provide a fun, practical and creative learning
opportunity for all of our Foundation Stage students!
Over the course of a 3 week period, the bags will contain
materials that can support the learning from home. Your child’s class teacher
will be in touch via email with instructions of how to access the blog for some
inspiration. We kindly ask that you take great care of all the resources
provided and return these to school at the end of the 3 week period prior to
picking up your new bag.
We hope you enjoy exploring these packs alongside our CSL
provision and as always, please do contact your child’s class teacher if you
have any queries regarding the learning.
Kind Regards,
The Foundation Stage Team
We Love To See Your Learning
We really love to see videos and photos of what you have been doing at home. The best way to share this with us is via the Seesaw App. You should have received communication about how to download and login to the app. If you have not received this, please email the ISIT helpdesk- helpdesk@patana.ac.th

We hope that you have enjoyed engaging with the FS2 Blog this week.
If you have any concerns or queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher via email. They can then arrange a mutually convenient time to meet via MS Teams. Our class teachers always welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s needs and progress.
