Habitat Explorers

Last week we had a wonderful time exploring the homes we live in. You may have noticed that your friends’ homes have some spaces that are similar to yours, but others may be different. We each live in the spaces that keep us safest and most comfortable. Animals do that, too! Animals choose homes, or habitats, that best suit their needs. They choose homes that are nearby favourite foods, that have space to grow and that are safe places to keep their families. Each day this week we will have the chance to explore a different animal habitat. Today, we’re starting with minibeasts!
In a warm, green country like Thailand, it’s easy to find minibeasts in their natural habitats! Just by popping outside, let’s see what we can find!
Find a small area in your garden and rope it off using some of the string from your resource pack. Where have you chosen? Look very closely at the grass or soil in your area. Who can you see moving around in there? What are they up to?
Come back throughout the day and check on your garden area. Has it changed? What might happen if it rains? Is there food for the minibeasts living in your area? How do you know?
You might like to draw the plants and insects that you’ve found. Or, take photos to share on Seesaw with your teachers!
While you’re checking out your area, you might think of more questions you’d like answers to about minibeasts. Ask your adults to help you research in books or online to learn more about the minibeasts you find!
Are you ready to play a racing game today? All you need is a basket and some toys. Crawl like a bear and collect one toy at a time. Race back in a zigzag pattern, and place the toy in the basket. How fast can you complete the race? Have fun!
In your Resource Pack, you will have noticed a large art book. This is your child's 'Me and My World Book'.
Guidance- English
Research into communication, language and emotional development tells us that young children need opportunities to talk about and share their interests and family life with others. Once back in school, this book will help to create a sense of belonging and will encourage children to talk to their friends and teachers.
This book will come home from school many times throughout the year to be updated.
What we would like you to do now:
As this is a prompt for talk, we would like you to help your child to include some of the following:
Photographs of family members and other special people
Particular interests and hobbies
Holiday photographs
Special events (cultural or family celebrations)
Pets
Favourite foods
Favourite music, TV shows, toys, characters etc..
You do not need to print everything. Children can draw their favourite things or cut out snippets from magazines or leaflets. Your child can decorate the front cover of their book anyway they wish!
We suggest, that at this time, you don’t use more than 4 or 5 pages. This will ensure there is plenty of space for your child to add and reflect upon their experiences and interests throughout the rest of the school year.
Enjoy starting to create this special book together!

As Patana’s Continuing Student Learning (CSL) period
continues into a new term, children and teachers will be learning what makes
great lessons online and honing their skills on the technology; however, for
our youngest students, screen time is not always so easy. Whilst our youngest
students love working with their teacher onscreen, they also benefit immensely
from hands-on, practical and creative tasks that aren’t always easy to deliver
online.
If there’s anything our fantastic Foundation Team enjoy,
it’s a challenge. So, over the last week, our team put together these fantastic
home learning packs to bring Continuing Student Learning to life. Our home
learning packs enhance our students’ learning and supplement our teachers’ home
learning activities. They include activities that cover all aspects of the
Early Years Seven Learning Areas. You can visit our CSL blog which includes
some home learning ideas for our open ended resources, learning opportunities
and key questions. The bags provide a fun, practical and creative learning
opportunity for all of our Foundation Stage students!
Over the course of a 3 week period, the bags will contain
materials that can support the learning from home. Your child’s class teacher
will be in touch via email with instructions of how to access the blog for some
inspiration. We kindly ask that you take great care of all the resources
provided and return these to school at the end of the 3 week period prior to
picking up your new bag.
We hope you enjoy exploring these packs alongside our CSL
provision and as always, please do contact your child’s class teacher if you
have any queries regarding the learning.
