This Week Foundation Stage Children are going to become...

If you missed Phase One : 'Research and Find Out' or Phase 2 'Play and Explore' you can go back to yesterday's blog here:

Phase Three - Planning

Planning is really another word for ‘thinking’ but the physical plan makes that thinking visible. Planning is also a great opportunity for children to organise their thoughts and express their thinking

The children should by now be able to tell you which types of creativity they enjoyed the most from exploring. They will also have heard your feedback of what you liked about their explorations and why. They should therefore have several ideas and options for their plan. The ‘purpose’ for the artwork will help them with the plan. If they know what their artwork is for, they can consider this in planning.

Early Years Development Matters Assessment Indicators:

Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes

Chooses particular colours to use for a purpose

Can describe the position of things such as ‘behind’ or ‘next to’

Can write simple phrases or captions

Can attempt to write a simple sentence (FS2)

Can break the flow of speech into words ( FS1 for an adult to scribe)

Can say the initial sound in words (FS1)

Uses sound in words in the order in which they appear

Makes phonetically plausible attempts when writing or sounding out.

We are also developing Characteristics of Effective Learning:

Planning is also a great opportunity for communication as children talk about their plans, linking thoughts and ideas. There are also reading and writing opportunities here again: writing a list of the things you need, drawing a quick plan with labels and captions. Children in FS1 can tell a grown up what to write. The adult can then scribe for them!

If you want to get started on your idea...Go for it!

Phase 4 - Do - Have a Go!

Take a look in your class home learning folder so see what all your friends have been creating so far!

Advice for parents:

It’s important for children to understand that things will never be the best the first time. Getting children into the habit of trying things out and improving them over time is a really great characteristic for children to develop. Often with art work, children can become frustrated when they struggle to make their art look how that wanted to, particularly if using pencils and paintbrushes because they are still developing control .That’s why other forms of art are so important to try too.

Development Matter Assessment Indicators:

Manipulates materials to achieve a planned effect

Shows preferences in way to express themselves

Knows that they can combine different materials to achieve a planned effect

Constructs with a purpose in mind, using a variety of resources.

Uses simple tools and techniques competently and appropriately.

Uses familiar objects and common shapes to create and recreate patterns and build models.

Beginning to use mathematical language related to shape and size curved, straight, bigger, smaller, oval, diamond

Music with our Special Guest!

We invite you to upload a short video of your child singing Every Little Cell’ to ILD. It can be the whole song or part of it, with an instrument (like a salt shaker or cornflakes) or without! We will take the videos and make a compilation to share with our community. If you do not wish to take part in that, there is no need to upload a video.

Rice and Tana share their version of Every Little Cell

Birthday corner!

There are no birthdays in FS today!

Just for fun: The Hubble Space Telescope is a large telescope in space. It takes pictures of planets, stars and galaxies. Click this link to find out what the Hubble telescope saw on your birthday!

These are some ideas for learning at home today. A reminder that you don't have to do all (or any) of these today. Maintaining a routine and a connection with school are the most important things!

You can make this more challlenging by:

  1. Using the 1-10 spinner

  3. Only certain doubles win, 1/3/5, or 2/4/6.
