We have had so much wonderful learning shared from home that we have now created a 'Sharing Our Learning' gallery on the main page so we can keep on adding more!

These are some ideas for learning at home today. A reminder that you don't have to do all (or any) of these today. Maintaining a routine and a connection with school are the most important things!

This week in Foundation Stage we are going to Play...

For parents: How did it feel to follow Ms Sarah’s advice when playing with your child yesterday? Did you find it challenging to take a back seat and let the child lead? This can be difficult for us all! Remember, higher attainment is achieved through higher engagement so if the child feels they are in charge of their own learning (play), then they will be more deeply involved in their learning process.

Look back at Monday's blog for more information about the difference between traditional, deconstructed and small world role play. You might also want to look some these fantastic examples of role play in school: Click HERE

Throughout the week, you will see the visual below which shows how we can deepen children’s learning through play. Click on the icons to find out more. Today we recommend you focus on how to use props effectively in play, and how to children can use research  skills to deepen their understanding, so click on the boxes or see the videos underneath.

Using open-ended props for more imagination and deeper thinking:

Don't forget to open in Google Docs to see some ideas!

Dear children: I wonder how you played yesterday? I wonder what toys and tools you used, I wonder what ideas you explored, I wonder if your play had a story? How will you play today? I wonder if you’ll explore a new idea or carry on with yesterday’s play. Maybe you’ll be inspired by Stanley’s Stick - can you find a stick and think of lots of creative ways to play with it?

This week, the maths and writing is connected to the role play to support making the connections and bringing these key skills in a context that is meaningful for the children.

Phonics Today!

FS1 Phonics

Watch Ms Elizabeth explain how to use a writing tool kit in play so that you're ready to write labels, tickets, menus, customers' orders, doctor's prescriptions, timetables, parking tickets - whatever your play needs!

FS2 Phonics

Ms Robine has a phonics game to play to remind us of some Wizard Words that you might use when writing your captions or sentences:

Development Matters Assessment Indicators:

  • Communication, Language and Literacy: Develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development: children play collaboratively, taking turns with others.

Birthday corner!

Congratulations to Yoomi in FSS who celebrates her special day today - we hope you have a wonderful day from all your friends in the Foundation Stage!

Sensory Play!

This activity encourages your child to use their eyes to focus on what they can see, engaging their senses and their listening skills. Finding the objects promotes a sense of accomplishment and the feeling of achieving a goal. This is a great activity for developing attention and listening skills.
