We have had so much wonderful learning shared from home that we have now created a 'Sharing Our Learning' gallery on the main page so we can keep on adding more!

These are some ideas for learning at home today. A reminder that you don't have to do all (or any) of these today. Maintaining a routine and a connection with school are the most important things!

This week in Foundation Stage we are going to be...

Parents...

Inquiry-based learning helps our children to stay curious and motivated to keep learning.  In Foundation Stage, children's imaginations are rich with curiosity and this week's learning gives your child the space to explore anything they are interested in.

Look at the phases that inquiry-based learning might take:

Click here to see the diagram in Thai.

Here's an example of how these phases might look for a child exploring a new, interesting vegetable they've seen at the shop:

Sometimes the hardest part can be helping the child to choose one thing they want to explore.  If your child already knows, go ahead and explore the phases above.  If they need some inspiration, you could watch our teachers modelling the inquiry questions they have.  Your child might also be inspired by our explorer-themed daily book and an explorer-themed daily challenge.

Children...

Are you ready to be an explorer?  An explorer is anyone who wants to find out something new!  What do you want to find out today?

Watch the teachers explain how they're going to be explorers, read the explorer stories and try our explorer challenge.

These teachers are explorers - what do they want to find out?

Little Explorer challenge

Max and Millie were left with carrot tops after enjoying some tasty carrots for their lunch. They didn’t want the carrot tops to go to waste. So, they decided to see if they could grow new carrots with the leftovers. Check out below what happened in just 2 short weeks!

Well done, Max and Millie! Keep looking after your carrots and soon you might have another tasty vegetable to enjoy!

Now, it’s your turn. Can you find leftover fruit or vegetable cuttings from a meal in your home? Find a way to plant your leftovers to grow new, tasty foods! Follow the link for tips!

Explorer stories

All our stories this week are explorer-themed to help you generate ideas.  You can watch our focus story today, or choose from any of the bookshelf.

Assessment - what will your child learn in this project?

Development Matters Assessment Indicators

  • Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools. They select and use technology for particular purposes.
  • Knows that information can be retrieved from computers

  • Children know about similarities and differences in relation to objects and materials.

We are also developing Characteristics of Effective Learning:

Physical Development

Create your own bowling game with a twist. Instead of using your arm to throw and roll a ball to hit the pins, use your foot. This is a wonderful game to practice your kicking skills.

Phonics

FS1: Play I Spy by sounding out the name of the object you are looking at.

Blend the sounds together to find out what the object is.  For example, "I spy something that is round.  I spy a /b/ /a/ /l/ (ball)."

FS2: writing sentences for Little Explorers

Sensory play

For today’s sensory play, try making some foam!

You will need:

  • 2 tablespoons of dish washing soap, liquid detergent or baby soap.
  • ¼ cup water
  • A few drops of food colouring (optional)
  • A mixer

Mix it all up for a couple of minutes and put it in a big container.  Make as much as you need for your child to explore.  If your child has sensitive skin, use baby soap.

Thai translation:
