We have had so much wonderful learning shared from home that we have now created a 'Sharing Our Learning' gallery on the main page so we can keep on adding more!

These are some ideas for learning at home today. A reminder that you don't have to do all (or any) of these today. Maintaining a routine and a connection with school are the most important things!

This week in Foundation Stage we are going to be...

Parents...

This week's project, Little Architects, follows on from Little Role Play - this is still open-ended play but with a suggested starting point.  Throughout the week, we will show how you can bring key skills into children's play, such as measurement for maths skills and blueprint planning for writing skills, but the emphasis is still on following your child's interests and engaging in their play.

Watch Ms Clare's overview of the project:

Today, just like last Monday, please begin by just playing with your child.  Explore what they are interested in and go from there.  Little Architects might be large scale den building, or small scale building with blocks, or something else based on your child's interests.  Below are some prompts to start you off, if you wish to use them.

Children...

What did you play with last week?  This week, you can continue to play - maybe you'll be a Little Architect and build something in your play!

Would you like to build a den?  Here are some ideas:

What other ideas do you have?  What would you like to build, and how will you do it?  Or maybe you'd like to build something smaller, just as the child in When I Build With Blocks does.  What would you like to build?

Ms Gemma's Little Architect challenge

Can you build a chair for one of your teddies to sit on?  How can you make sure it's the right size, that they don't fall off and that they are comfortable?Would you like to add any interesting extra features?

Building with various kinds of blocks enables our children to improve their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Assessment - some of the key things your child is learning in this project

Development Matters Assessment Indicators

  • Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others. They will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They say when they do or don’t need help.

  • They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas.
  • They handle equipment and tools effectively.

  • They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design, role-play and stories

Birthday Corner

There are no birthdays in FS today.

Sensory Play - making Rainbow Rice!

Today, let's make Rainbow Rice!  In the process of making this creative resource, children experience following the instructions to make it and they see the process of changing the colour of rice.  Once it's finished, they have a tool to use to explore and express their creative ideas.  Enjoy!

You will need:

  • 1 cup of rice (for each colour)
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • A few drops of food colouring
  • Ziploc bag

FS1 - I Spy Blending

Play I Spy by sounding out the name of the object you are looking at.

Blend the sounds together to find out what the object is.

For example, I spy something that is round.

I spy a /b/ /a/ /l/ (ball).

FS2 - writing captions

Can you write a word, caption or sentence about this picture?  See our example underneath for ideas.

Word: block

Caption: a boy and a block

Sentence: A boy is on the blocks.
